Job Description
The Material Control Specialist position is in Middlesex, VT and is full-time. The primary functions include performing daily warehouse duties for the provisioning of materials supporting requirements for Network Operations, OST, OSP Construction, Sales, and Customer Service. Routine duties include receiving, stocking, shipping, staging, tracking, planning and allocation of regulated and non-regulated materials, non-inventory and inventory materials. Also, duties include requisitioning, Inventory management and all related system transactions for the provisioning of this material.

Role and Responsibilities for Material Control Specialist
- Must be fully trained and familiar with every function involved in the daily operations of the storeroom.
- Oversee special projects and additional tasks or activities as assigned.
- Process orders timely and accurately for customer’s needs.
- Process material transactions and annual inventory efficiently through PeopleSoft.
- Manage the logistics of repaired materials, warranty check and ensures equipment is repaired in a timely fashion.
- Maintain inventory levels in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Unload and receive materials, including central office, business systems, exempt, miscellaneous project and Outside Plant materials including cable, poles, and steel pipe, and other materials as required.
- Process requisitions for materials needed by employees and contractors as directed by management.
- Handle customer needs at the counter and/or cable yard timely and efficiently.
- Notify other departments/customers upon arrival of ordered materials.
- Receive, clean and store used or returned items and/or equipment taken out of service and returned to inventory.
- Operate the forklift in a safe and efficient manner; maintain forklift certifications.
- Maintain storeroom shelves and cable yard in a neat and orderly fashion. This includes the efficient arrangement of all materials in both the storeroom and cable yard. The materials are to be stored in a systematic manner so all personnel can effectively work in the area.
- Drive company vehicle when required.
- Package, label and ship materials to other locations as required. Maintain all logs accurately.
- Assist other areas of the Purchasing & Material Control department as required or as directed by Management.
- Perform all tasks in a safe manner. Wear appropriate clothing including hard hats, where required, steel toed safety shoes.
- Move and/or lift weights of 100 pounds or more. The job may entail other physical demands/requirements not listed here which employees must be able to successfully perform as essential functions of this job.
- May be required to perform additional duties and tasks as required by the Company.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
- Knowledge and Experience: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the job; however, this list is not all-inclusive. The Company may add requirements at its sole discretion.
- Education/Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Language Ability: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in a one-on-one and small group situations to customers and employees of the organization.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations with regard to inventory control.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Problem Solving/Decision Making: Possess ability to resolve inventory discrepancies effectively and in a timely manner. Possess ability to resolve material shortages for both external and internal customers.
- Personal Interaction Requirements: Work closely with other employees and contractors. Work closely with internal customers in the provisioning of materials. Work with other SCM departmental personnel in the performance of their duties as required.
- Computer Skills: General computer skills required with the ability to operate Microsoft Word, Excel, and Lotus Notes email. Must be able to process material control and requisition transactions and perform general inquiries within PeopleSoft.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record and be an insurable driver.
- Must be Fork Truck Operator within 30 days, dependent on the availability of a qualified trainer to do the certification.
Compensation
The pay is $25- $30/hour depending on experience.
