The Master Mechanic is responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, and repairing vehicles and assisting in the management of the shop. This dual role requires an experienced mechanic with strong leadership abilities to manage staff, oversee day-to-day operations, and ensure financial sustainability. This position emphasizes the need for business acumen, excellent customer service, and a passion for training and mentoring team members who have experienced challenging life circumstances. The ideal candidate will be a technical master, a strong communicator, and an effective manager: able to diagnose automotive problems efficiently and build trust with customers by recommending the correct repairs and quickly executing them while building the skills of junior mechanics.Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform accurate mechanical and electrical diagnostics on vehicle systems and determine necessary repairs.
- Carry out high-quality repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, HVAC, and electrical components.
- Operate computerized diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot issues in modern vehicles, including gas-powered, hybrid, and electric models.
- Ensure systems operate efficiently and recommend preventive maintenance when necessary. Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations concerning automotive repair and maintenance.
- Prioritize and handle multiple vehicle repairs, meeting deadlines and updating customers accordingly.
- Foster a customer-centric culture by delivering professional and courteous service. Communicate repair options, pricing, and maintenance needs to customers, ensuring transparency and satisfaction.
- Record diagnostics, repairs, and parts used in the shop management system for future reference.
- Lead the recruitment, training, and development of junior mechanics. Develop curriculum, provide hands-on training in mechanical diagnostics, repair techniques, and shop safety, demonstrating patience, empathy, and a supportive attitude in helping employees develop technical and professional skills.
- Keep current with new diagnostic tools, repair techniques, and automotive technology through ongoing training.
- Test drive vehicles post-repair to ensure all issues are resolved and the vehicle operates as intended.
- Coordinate with parts vendors to order necessary parts and ensure timely repairs. Establish strong relationships with vendors and distributors for quality parts at competitive prices.
- Ensure shop tools and diagnostic equipment are in proper working order, arranging repairs as needed.
- Oversee shop personnel, ensuring that all mechanics adhere to shop and OSHA standards for quality, efficiency, and safety. Develop schedules, assign work orders, and monitor productivity and morale among the team.

Qualifications
- Familiarity with shop operations, inventory management, and customer service and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
- Ability to manage multiple jobs simultaneously, prioritize tasks, and ensure efficient workflow.
- Ability to analyze financial data and make decisions to drive business success.
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages, enhancing communication with a diverse customer base.
- Experience in leading a team of mechanics or training junior technicians.
- Familiarity with diagnosing and repairing electric and hybrid powertrains.
- Expertise in vehicle software updates, coding, and programming.
Education & Experience
ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Master Certification or equivalent highly preferred.
At least 5-7 years of hands-on experience in automotive repair, with expertise in both domestic and foreign vehicles.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision for detailed inspection, distance vision to assess vehicles, color vision to identify parts and fluids, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus when working on various mechanical components.
Work Environment

The work environment typically includes an automotive repair shop with varying noise levels, exposure to vehicle exhaust, lubricants, and chemicals, as well as operating machinery and tools. Noise levels can range from moderate to high, particularly during peak hours or while working with heavy equipment.
Compensation $72,000 - $93,000
Salary to be negotiated depending on qualifications and depth of experience. This is a full-time exempt position offering a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, life and retirement account. This position also includes generous paid time off package covering sick, vacation and holiday pay.
