Qualifications:
- HT ASCP registration is preferred and 1-year of college, with courses in biology and chemistry preferred.
- 2-years of experience in histology is preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Director, the Histology Technician is responsible for preparation and staining of specimens. S/He accessions the specimen for billing and maintains the Laboratory, including supplies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. P
erforms sections.

2. R
esponsible for training other histology technicians as required for covering the Laboratory.

3. M
aintains section laboratory and equipment.

4. P
erforms gross sectioning, fixing, processing, embedding, cutting, staining, coverslipping and mounting of tissue.

5. P
roduces and maintains accurate records and bills for all work performed.

6. R
e-orders stock items as needed.

7. P
repares stains and stock solutions, monitors pH and expiration dates.

8. S
ets up, maintains, operates, and cleans all laboratory equipment and instruments.

9. P
roperly disposes of all chemicals.

10. D
ates and labels used hazardous waste containers.
Prepares hazardous waste for pick up.

11. M
aintains quality control data for the laboratory.

12. M
ay perform specialized tests including special stains, immunoperoxidase, cytospin, centrifuge techniques, as well as preparation of smears.
