As a key member of the marketing team, the Marketing Manager will collaborate closely with the Associate Director, Marketing, the rest of the Marketing team, and other divisions/departments to reinforce the AACR’s position as the world’s premier cancer research association. A core focus of the Marketing Manager is to lend their expertise to improve targeting efforts for more successful marketing campaigns that ultimately drive growth for the organization, working cross-functionally with key internal partners. The ideal candidate is analytical, a creative problem solver, likes to work on multiple projects at once, and is excited at the prospect of contributing to the AACR’s mission.
Responsibilities:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and manage targeted email campaigns using Salesforce Marketing Cloud to support core divisions including Scientific Programs, Membership, Scientific Reports, Global Affairs, Research and Grants, Science Policy and Government Affairs, Patient Advocacy, the AACR Foundation, etc. Leverage marketing automation tools, data integration, and customer journey design to enhance engagement, optimize campaigns, and drive business growth. Manage the master schedule of emails and audience targeting process to ensure all departments’ needs are met.
- Set and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to marketing campaigns. Analyze campaign performance metrics and regularly prepare reports. Provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Manage leads for email campaigns. Ensure leads generated through marketing efforts are appropriately tagged and work with outside agencies to procure new leads as needed.
- Work closely with Associate Director, Marketing to manage media campaigns in support of AACR’s key initiatives and priorities. Maintain master calendar of media placements across AACR publications and external outlets, working closely with Creative Services and Production teams on delivery of materials in accordance with deadlines. Track ROI and campaign effectiveness as well as timely payment of invoices.
- Represent the organization at AACR events and other cancer-related conferences throughout the year, including the AACR Annual Meeting, the preeminent global event for the cancer research community. Perform onsite duties, including engaging with AACR members/potential members to promote the organization’s key priorities, and setup and breakdown of booth. Travel to 5-7 events/conferences per year.
- Collaborate with Programs team on follow up surveys for the AACR Annual Meeting and other events, compiling feedback and distributing reports as needed. Contribute to research projects across the organization as needed to better understand and target the AACR’s key audiences, including members, the broader scientific community, policymakers, the biomedical industry, survivors, patient advocates, and the lay public.
- Build cross-functional relationships internally across all departments.
- Work closely with IT team to pull reports as needed.
- Partner with social media/search team to build holistic marketing plans and reports, and to maximize retargeting efforts.
Essential Skills and Knowledge
- Proven experience executing email campaigns with an understanding of email marketing best practices.
- Extensive experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud or similar CRM platform. Familiarity with marketing automation tools and techniques.
- Lifecycle marketing experience.
- Understanding of customer segmentation and personalization.
- Experience turning data into actionable insights that can be socialized and presented across key stakeholders.
- Experience with media/advertising campaigns and evaluating performance metrics.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills including expertise in writing marketing-centric copy.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
- Ability to interact with all levels of management.
- Experience managing multiple deadline-driven projects at once.
- Self-starter with a can do attitude and a strong attention to detail.
Education and Training
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Business, or related field required.
Computer Knowledge
- Salesforce Database Management, Salesforce Marketing Cloud or similar CRM platform, Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook). Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and other creative programs a plus.
Work Experience
- 5+ years of marketing experience.
- Knowledge of or familiarity with life science or cancer-related organizations, or nonprofit or membership-based marketing experience a plus.
