About the Job
The Marketing Communications (MarCom) Director at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club (NHYC) is responsible for overseeing all communications vehicles, including the website, weekly newsletters, social media and all graphic and visual presentations throughout the Club. In this position, you will be responsible for producing high-quality content in line with NHYC’s Brand and longstanding traditions.

Collaborates and coordinates projects with: All Departments and Members
Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Responsible for maintaining and adhering to the NHYC Identity Guidelines (color, print, & web communication standards)
- Develop relevant content topics for key audiences of the NHYC; creates and maintains a Content Calendar; posts relevant content in accordance with the Content Calendar
- Develop and maintain a social media moderation guide
- Create and post content to the Club’s social media accounts; monitor comments and respond in a timely manner in accordance with social media moderation guide
- Responsible for development and management of the annual Communications budget
- Attends events to generate live social media content / coverage
- Works with other committees as necessary throughout the year.
Communication
- Responsible for copy writing (articles and letters to Members) including but not limited to Club weekly and monthly newsletters (print & web-based distribution), email messages and any other special communication as requested by Internal Club stakeholders under the guidance and direction of the General Manager, Commodore(s), and Board of Directors
- Ensures staff and Committees are informed of updates to Club communication policies, procedures and standard guidelines
- Responsible for the Club website; work with appropriate suppliers to ensure design, content and structure reflect the NHYC brand
- Responsible for oversight and creative development of Club event media promotions, including but not limited to internal advertising and signage, event registration, direct mail, email campaigns, invitations, programs, menus, etc.
- Attends monthly Committee Meetings when required
- Attends ad-hoc meetings when needed
- Maintains relationships with sponsors & partners
Branding, Marketing & Promotions
- Acts as a point of contact to communicate the overall branding goals of the organization and their significance to the various sections and departments within the Club
- Creates and manages regatta or event microsites (documents, registration, and results) as requested
- Seeks out appropriate opportunities to tie the brand closely to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of the NHYC individually and collectively
- Work closely with the Sailing Offices, Food & Beverage, and Membership departments to promote the NHYC and its segments and services.
- Arrange and direct photoshoots for graphic design projects, board members, special events, website, and other needs as required
- Engages in qualitative and quantitative research on Club perceptions, emerging industry issues and best practice communication requirements.
- Expands the organization’s media contact database and fosters partnerships with the media, influencers and non-traditional media outlets.
- Builds relationships with other yacht clubs and other external stakeholders, developing common strategies, positions and goals with respect to the formulation of consistent communications of issues of importance.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience
- 3-5 years work experience in the communications, digital, design and marketing field
- Advanced computer skills: proficient with MAC & Windows O/S, Adobe Creative Suite, web-based CMS, web publishing applications, Google analytics, Webtrends, SEO, HTML, and various social media platforms
- Knowledge of colour systems, artwork preparation and the print production process.
- Experience with Club Essentials Software is a strong asset
- Experience overseeing staff in a management capacity
- Experience in Yacht Clubs or Hospitality industry an asset
- Active in industry associations/groups
- Experience in yacht racing an asset.
