The Position
We are seeking a highly skilled Technology Manager to own the IT infrastructure and applications, which exist across our fleet of polar ships at Quark Expeditions. The role will follow a matrix reporting structure, with direct line management coming from the Travelopia Group Technology team, with a key dotted line into the Head of Ship Operations.
Travel Requirements:
Frequent Travel (approximately 50%), and visa requirements must be met for the following locations: Canada, USA, UK, Western Europe (i.e. Greenland, Finland, Iceland, Norway), Canary Islands, South America - Argentina, South Georgia, Falklands.
The responsibilities of the role include the following:
- Lead and champion the day-to-day IT operations across all ships in the Quark Expeditions fleet
- Support the local technical teams to resolve critical issues as required
- As part of the Global Technology team – understand where standard IT policies & procedures can be adopted, and when specific policies & procedures need adopting given the unique operational environment
- Engage with and be responsible for performance of multiple 3rd parties who provision IT services on the ships
- Ensure smooth transitions at start of end of Artic & Antarctic seasons, spending a short time onboard our ships to supervise crucial work and ensure service continuity
- Collaborate with other departments across Quark and Travelopia IT teams - to identify and address the needs of the Ships
- Function in a service management capacity to ensure that ITIL principles are adhered to and that Vendor management is in place and effective
- Be a key part of the Ship Operations leadership team at Quark – whilst also being a key part of the Travelopia Group Technology team. This requires a “best of both worlds” approach
- Stay ahead of with emerging technologies and trends in IT operations and comms, and make recommendations for upgrades and improvements, always considering cost and value for money
- Pioneer and analyze system performance and usage metrics, and make recommendations for optimization and efficiency improvements
- Lead small IT projects for the ships - from inception to completion, ensuring that they are completed on time and within budget
- Develop and maintain disaster recovery and business continuity plans, and coordinate testing and improvements
You will have:
- Understanding and experience of ITIL v4
- Experience of operating within an Agile Environment
- Some level of network experience (not necessarily certifications)
- Business Continuity Planning and Execution
- Team management
