About the Job
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.
- Adjust and maintain marine electrical equipment, using multi-meters, meggers, ammeters, oscilloscope, and other various test equipment.
- Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as motor controllers, motors, switches, outlets, junction boxes, voltage regulator(s), transformer(s), in accordance with industry standards (NFPA, NEMA, NEIS, ABS, NAVSEA STD ITM 009-23 and 009-73).
- Dismantle and reassemble motors, motor controllers, switches, junction boxes, etc.
- Clean parts by spraying them with electrical cleaning solvent, ensuring insulative / resistance properties meet design criteria.
- Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on electrical equipment.
- Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using standard electrical formulas such as Ohms law, power calculations, Kirchoffs Voltage/Current Laws, Inductive properties of a circuit, etc.
- Understand the uses and how/when to use equipment such as computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
- Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using electrical test equipment.
- Operate and inspect electrical machines or components to diagnose defects.
- Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
- Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
- Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records. Research, order, and maintain parts inventory for services and repairs.
- Test electrical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
- Solder broken parts and using soldering tools as necessary.
- Adhere to technical documentation, report when tolerances, conditions found do not meet required dimensions and recommend solutions.
- Read, interpret, and understand blue-prints.
- Read, interpret, and understand NAVSEA Standard Items, Technical Manuals, and MIL-STDs.
Required Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or Certificate from college or technical school or equivalent combination of education and experience in mechanic role preferred.
- Industrial and/or marine advanced electrical experience preferred:
- Journeyman 3: 5+ years and/or specialized training
- Journeyman 2: 3-5 years
- Journeyman 1: 1-3 years
Working Conditions:
- Open-air conditions such as noisy, hot, cold, etc.
- Working with hot and sometimes hazardous materials.
- Aboard ships, both on and offshore as well as confined spaces.
- Must wear hearing, eye, head protection and proper PPE.
- Some climbing (100 feet) and lifting (50 lbs.) involved Board ships, climb ladders and work in obscure and dense areas).

- Fluke Multimeter
- Megger
- Ammeter
- Power Tools, etc.
- Hand tools
Special Skills:
- Ability to work under deadlines and schedule pressures.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, drawings, technical manuals and work process instructions.
- Perform basic mathematical functions.
