Marine Construction Superintendent - SST Direct

Seeking a Marine Project Superintendent with 4-5 years of  dock systems and platforms experience for a direct hire opportunity with our client in Dana Point, CA.  

Salary is between $85,000 -$100,000 per year (based on experience) and a competitive benefits package. 

In this role you will Assists the Project Manager on individual or multiple projects by providing direction and coordination of construction activities on assigned jobs to obtain optimum efficiency and economy of operations and maximize profits by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate leads and employees. May be required to assist jobsite personnel with pre‐installation jobsite demolition and/or the installation of dock systems as needed. From time to time, may also be required to fulfill other responsibilities and requirements as assigned.

RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following.)

• Has the ability to read and analyze schedules in MS Project or the ability to be fully functional in a short period of time. Can plan, organize, and schedule work with the absence of direct outside information to develop preliminary schedules and work plans.
• Supervises construction crew lead persons (and construction laborers directly as required).
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
• Interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
• Studies drawings and specifications to plan procedures for construction on the basis of starting and completion times and on the basis of staffing requirements for each phase of construction.
• Coordinates members of the organization including supervisory and field crews throughout the project.
• Orders procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
• Confers with and directs supervisory personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, interpreting contract requirements, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
• Confers with Project Managers or Construction Managers, supervisory and engineering personnel, inspectors and suppliers of equipment, tools, and materials to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
• Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications and adheres to construction schedules.
• Administers and/or prepares and reviews reports on progress, materials used, and costs. Adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
• Along with Construction Manager is accountable for final construction that meets or exceeds project plans, specs, codes, submittals and expected quality.
• Reviews and approves invoices for projects’ construction operations. Coordinates with customers, engineers and inspectors for the generation and approval of applications for payment.
• Administers project documentation which records contract compliance; documents changes to the work; prepares, negotiates, and administers changes to the contract; notifies parties to the contract of changes (via change orders); notifies parties to the contract of disputes; secures authorization for additional work; and resolves other project‐related issues.
• Administers Company safety program relating to all project site activities and ensures effective loss control procedures are implemented.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four‐year college or university; or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Degrees in Construction Management, Engineering, Business Management or equivalent (preferred).
• Proficient with MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook, MS Project, or experience with other scheduling software (preferred).
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret shop drawings, project schedules, general contract provisions or governmental regulations, general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, area, circumference, and volume.
• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Ability to qualify as “Qualifying Party” for multiple state contractor’s licenses which may include successful completion of business and construction exams.
• Ability to obtain first aid and CPR certification if not already certified.
• Must have an understanding of other trades working at the site, i.e., electrical, mechanical and pile driving.
• Must be willing to travel to the various jobsites.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and experience administering safety policies preferred.
• Experience erecting steel buildings preferred.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed (more than 2/3 of the time) to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. The employee will be exposed to extreme cold or extreme heat semi‐regularly (1/3 to 2/3 of the time). The employee is occasionally (define) exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration on occasion. The noise intensity is moderate most of the time, with occasional loud or very loud noise.

While performing the pre‐installation demolition and dock installation duties of this job, the employee is regularly required (more than 2/3 of the time) to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl and talk or hear, and occasionally (define) required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 10 to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Lift and/or move up to and more than 100 pounds using teamwork or machinery less than 1/3 of the time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
