Position Overview:
Responsible for applying professional engineering techniques and standards in the development of and/or modification to facilities, systems, processes or equipment as needed. Responsibilities include full project management working within budget and time constraints and supervision of Engineers or Technicians on routine projects.
What you'll do
- Professionally engineer, design and build prototype and production machinery and develop processes to evaluate performance, company safety, preventative maintenance and federally mandated equipment guidelines and operator ergonomics. Makes necessary recommendations for new and improved design products or processes.
- Conducts performance tests on production equipment and processes to monitor yield rates, ease of operation, and overall production efficiency on a continuous basis. Discusses results obtained with management and production personnel to determine course of action to be taken. Provides regular status updates of equipment and process evaluations and special projects to production personnel at monthly plant meetings.
- Plans, schedules and coordinates with other Engineers and Production personnel to design processes for the introduction of new products or line extensions due to the introduction of new production equipment or tools. Provides project updates and documentation to management.
- Originates ideas for processes, production equipment or tools. Uses engineering fundamentals to lend direction to projects. Prepares conceptual designs using two or three dimensional computer modeling. Meets with other Engineers, Production representatives and Repair Maintenance Representatives to provide leadership in conducting reviews of process designs.
- Designs, redesigns and builds prototypes of production equipment and tools to insure production capabilities. Completes all appropriate documentation supporting all design changes or modifications..
- Builds prototypes of processes, equipment or tools. Oversees tests on prototypes and gathers results of testing. Reconvenes Project Members to discuss data obtained and improve upon prototype design to achieve desired results.
- Communicates with Equipment Operators and Maintenance Technicians on debugging and troubleshooting equipment malfunctions while assisting in repair functions.
- Prepares cost analysis on all proposed changes to the manufacturing processes and manufacturing equipment. Formally oversees and presents planning, costing and time line information for new projects to groups involved with the project.
- Prepares the analysis and tracking of all capital costs associated with production equipment or
- processes. Submits all cost information obtained to management.
- All other responsibilities as deemed necessary by management.
Who you are
- Basic knowledge of the design systems and capabilities of PLC's (Programmable Logic Controls).
- Four-year college degree required. (Engineering)
- Basic knowledge of computer use and software such as Word and Excel.
- Solid knowledge of electrical, mechanical and industrial engineering.
- Solid knowledge of the principles of engineering to develop and modify components and systems.
- Solid knowledge of the selection and determination of materials used in production equipment, tool design and modification.
- Solid knowledge of machinery design, process improvement methodology, industrial processes and procedures.
- Solid knowledge of the full product line that is being produced.
- Solid knowledge of the principles of the safe operation of each piece of production equipment.
- Expert knowledge of machining to be able to design and build an equipment part or machine utilizing the most economical and durable goods.
- Expert knowledge in communicating in both written and verbal form with other Engineers, suppliers and representatives of other departments.
- Solid knowledge of project management from a conceptual design phase to implementation.
- Solid knowledge of taking a component from conceptual design phase to prototyping, to first article component evaluation and modification, to the development of work instructions and troubleshooting.
