Description of Responsibilities:

Hoppe Technologies, located in Chicopee, Massachusetts, is currently recruiting to fill a Manufacturing Process Engineer position. Hoppe celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2021, and we are an established machining company serving (primarily) the aerospace, defense, and semiconductor industries. Our primary machining areas consist of 3-, 4-, and 5- axis Mazak, Okuma and Matsuura milling and Mazak Integrex mill-turn CNC machines. We are continually upgrading and adding new machines to our shop, the most recent being a pair of Matsuura MAM72-70V’s each equipped with 18-pallet tower systems. Responsibilities of the Manufacturing Process Engineer include, but are not limited to;

• Member of the engineering team and key contributor to New Product Introduction (NPI) with a focus on manufacturability, process capability, and determining future improvements.
• Review and interpret product design information (design input), available 2D drawings, GD&T, 3D electronic models and other product specifications in order to develop and propose the most suitable machining / production process.
• Consider and select all tooling and fixturing that will be required for the production. Assist with the design and participate in making of needed fixtures and set up components.
• Deliver annual cost savings using lean manufacturing tools to reduce variable costs, improve efficiency, create flow, and increase throughput.
• Determine and specify capital equipment upgrades and automation solutions to manual or semi-automated tasks and processes.
• Provide direct technical support to the shop floor to troubleshoot and resolve various manufacturing concerns.
• Process Owner for Tooling Management with responsibility for managing all related processes and systems and maintain control of the overall site tool spend.
• Provide engineering support to various supporting processes and systems such as Preventive Maintenance.
• Lead cross-functional teams through 8D Root Cause and Corrective Actions to resolve internal and external non-conformances.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Required Experience:

Required Skills:

• Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, Mechanical Engineering or similar.
• Proficient knowledge and application of precision measuring instruments and the application of such instruments. Instruments should include but not limited to calipers, ID and OD micrometers, depth gages, and indicators.
• Knowledge of reading drawings and specifications with an understanding of GD&T.
• Knowledge of tool holders, cutting tools, boring bars, fixtures, inserts, and other accessories used on various machines.
• Lean manufacturing certification and experience applying lean tools to drive improvement with an ability to provide detailed project examples inclusive of quantitative results.
• Project management skill set.
• Previous formal training and certification in 8D problem solving and internal auditing.
• Able to read and interpret complex part drawings and models with strong knowledge of GD&T.
• Proficiency in Solidworks with an ability to design conceptual work cells and plant layouts is helpful but not required.
