Manufacturing Engineering Technician (CNC Programming)
The selected individual will develop CNC programs, work instructions and set up sheets, choose capital equipment, and make recommendations to improve new and existing processes and products, assist Engineers and the Manufacturing group in the design, manufacture, construction, operation and improvement of manufacturing equipment and processes.
What will you do as a Manufacturing Engineering Technician?
- Produce prototypes and test runs with analysis of results. Coordinates activities related to execution of prototype orders. Understand customer expectation, estimate timelines, procure materials, etc. Ensures finished work complies with QMS and customer requirements.
- Provide feedback to Sales and Project Engineering groups related to lessons learned during prototype execution.
- Assist in the development of new equipment and / or processes.
- Development of work instructions, and a play a major role in training associates on new and existing technologies. Develop set up sheets in accordance with QMS. Maintain process documentation.
- Recommend and research capital equipment purchases - new and existing technology.
- Generate CNC programs for laser welding, laser marking, Swiss lathes and 3-axis mill and ECG Grinders.
- Initiate and lead process and product improvement programs for cycle time, cost, scrap, quality, safety and machine downtime reduction. Collaborate with Operators and Technicians to reduce overall set up time.
- Employ practical and creative approach to problem solving to support plant operations.
What are we seeking in the ideal candidate?
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Proven CNC programming experience with multi-axis Swiss style lathes or programming experience with laser weld and laser marking is required.
- Experience in programming multi-axis Mills, ECG Grinders and EDM's is desired.
- 2 + years overall programming experience is expected (5 + years for Sr. level position).
- Experience with Esprit CAM software is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of associates degree in related engineering field or equivalent experience is strongly preferred.
- Extensive tooling and machining experience with precision metal components is required.
- Excellent analytical math skills required. Ability to understand complex geometry, drawing and other print requirements.
- Experience with MRP systems is desirable.
- Must be able to troubleshoot and resolve manufacturing process issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to read, interpret and utilize engineering drawing and electronic data for product and process development.
- Strong process engineering skills including: work piece control concepts, tolerance stacking, datum controls, and fixturing concepts. Ability to design processes based on maximizing efficiency and quick changeovers.
- Strong GD&T and inspection skills.
- Post processor and/or DNC experience a plus
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to perform effectively in a team environment.
- Able to work independently and with others successfully.
- Takes initiative and has a sense of urgency.
- Enjoys technical and engineering activities.
- Able to identify, analyze and solve problems
- AutoCAD & Solid Works experience preferred
- Proficiency in using MS Office, Internet, e-mail, various ERP Applications, MS Office, AutoCAD, Visual Manufacturing, SolidWorks a plus
- Lean or other manufacturing certifications a plus
