Summary
This position ensures the most appropriate working methods are in place which support the safe and efficient operation of the plant and equipment. The manufacturing engineer supports production to ensure that Customer demands are fully met and recommends and implements solutions to the day-to-day operational, quality and performance problems. Additionally, the position recommends, plans, designs and implements methods, tooling and equipment to improve operational performance and quality, whilst ensuring that products are produced at the lowest possible cost.

- Ensures working methods and appropriate operating instructions are in place for all equipment and processes within the factory and that they enable processes to be operated in a safe and efficient way.
- Assists in the training of Operators to current or new working methods, ensuring that all personnel are competent to perform the required tasks.
- Demonstrates strong and proven knowledge of fixturing/work holding and tooling selection.
- Demonstrates strong and proven knowledge of G-Code programming and Ladder Logic.
- Possesses the ability to understand and troubleshoot automated systems, robotics, and vision systems.
- Using problem-solving techniques, able to complete analysis on a variety of possible production faults, to determine root cause and then implement preventative or corrective actions which eliminate the problem.
- Possesses full knowledge and understanding of a variety of CNC machinery or processes.
- Demonstrates high level of programming skills, including knowledge of CAD/CAM programming.
- Demonstrates strong understanding of fluid mechanics, electrical systems, and manufacturing processes.
- Implements TPM principles on critical processes.
- Able to identify and implement the most cost-effective critical spares and backup solutions for critical elements of each process.
- Analyzes workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow to recommend and implement improved equipment and workspace layout to give maximum efficiency.
- Strives for the implementation of improvement actions which give improved production efficiency or quality, resulting in reduced costs.
- Ensures new products, or revisions to existing products, are introduced into production in a timely and cost-effective manner and that all production or quality-related issues are debugged prior to SOP.
- Assists in Supplier development for cost, performance, and quality improvements.
- Manages the design, sourcing, implementation, validation, and debugging of tooling and capital equipment.
- Ensures that all engineering drawings are managed and kept up-to-date following any changes or new introductions to tooling or equipment.
- Assists in the early detection of any deterioration in the performance of machinery, tools, and equipment through the use and understanding of SPC.
- Ensures the principles of 5S are followed in their own area of work, wherever that work may be in the factory. Helps keep surrounding work areas clean, safe, and well-organized.
- Understands and applies quick changeover SMED principles to reduce downtime.
- Carries out manufacturing feasibility studies, including design reviews on new products; estimates production times, staffing, material requirements, and related costs to provide information for costing purposes.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelors degree (BA/BS) in Science or Engineering from a four-year college or university and three to five years of related experience and/or training; or
Associates degree in Science or Engineering from a two-year college or university and five to seven years of related experience and/or training; or
High school diploma or GED with seven years of related experience and/or training. - CNC Machinist background with working knowledge of fixturing/work holding and tooling selection preferred.
- Experience with TS/IATF16949 Automotive and ISO: 9001 preferred.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- No direct supervisory responsibilities; however, demonstrates willingness to share knowledge and work with other members of the engineering team, technicians, and operators.
- Demonstrates a team-building attitude and has a strong desire to contribute to the success of the Engineering Team.
Quality
- Assists in the development and implementation of the quality management system and continually improves its effectiveness to help the Company achieve the objectives set out in the Quality Policy.
HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment)
- Assists in the implementation of the HS&E Management System, controls, and practices, taking an active role in raising the Company's HS&E performance.
- Ensures adherence to the Company HS&E Policy and objectives and complies with specific legal duties applicable to the role in collaboration with Group HS&E support.
Financial
- Ensures purchase orders are raised, and the necessary authorization signature is obtained prior to ordering any engineering items or services required to perform the role.
