Manufacturing Engineer Job Description
Summary: The individual will perform the responsibilities listed below and other duties as required by the Company. The successful candidate must be familiar with a manufacturing environment, be a self-starter who pays attention to detail and accuracy and takes responsibility for their work.
FLSA Classification: Salary Exempt
Type: Full-time
Work hours: Monday - Friday, 7:00am - 4:30pm; Some overtime and weekend work may be necessary. Hours may be adjusted at the discretion of your supervisor.
Salary Range: Degreed: $100,000.00+
Reports to: Director of Operations
Location: 90% onsite at 350 Imperial Blvd. Cape Canaveral, FL USA; 10% travel to Hera West, Ontario, CA
Essential Job Duties (which include, but not limited to):
- Gather information from customer provided blueprints and purchase orders on scope of work and requirements necessary for potential machine shop and composites assembly work.
- Determine manufacturing steps and processes, equipment requirements, programming requirements, setup operations, material, labor, and other items necessary to perform work.
- Work with shop management and staff to understand and develop Engineering Masters.
- Trouble shoot and revise planning for process improvements as required.
- Perform time studies and set expectations of cycle times for New Product Introduction (NPI).
- Facilitate increase of composites production rate by 10% year over year while reducing cost on NPI.
- Resolve complex manufacturing defects and interface with the quality team on root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Communicate on a weekly basis with supporting departments such as Production, Machining, Maintenance, and Quality to ensure that products are delivered on time.
- Support all tensile pull and weight load testing required in house.
- Execute Engineering Masters in a timely manner.
- Be a channel for Hera's vision and drive a culture of discipline and excellence.
- Assist to develop and measurably improve KPI: safety, quality, onâ€time delivery and efficiency within composites.
- Ability to research, interpret, comprehend and retain job related information and instructions.
- Ability to understand, offer and implement solutions to machining problems/challenges.
- Must be able to maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Support 5-S and adhere to health, safety, and environmental company guidelines.
- Perform cross-functional operations.
- Participate in recruitment efforts by evaluating applications and resumes, selecting candidates to interview, assessing qualifications, and identifying candidates to hire.
- Provide support to router and laser department such as converting Solids to STL, DXF flat patterns as needed, prepare CNC programs for 3-axis CNC Routers and 2-axis CNC Laser cutters.
- When required, work with customers to resolve CAD data technical issues. Advise and assist in developing the manufacture of complex tools, interrelated mechanisms, and fixtures.
- Performs other duties as requested, assigned, or required.

Minimum Requirements:
- CAD experience such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA, Siemens NX.
- Previous Experience in Aerospace, specifically Structures, Machining, and Paint.
- Technical Writing.
- Machine Shop planning experience of medium to high complexity parts, including knowledge of setup and operation of a diverse range of machines. Planning experience must be with CNC Mill and Lathe operations.
- Experience and knowledge in reading, analyzing, and understanding technical specifications, drawings, bills of material, material and process specifications, quality documentation, and associated documentation.
- Experience and knowledge of the types of tooling required for specific applications, and generalized machine shop procedures.
- Experience Planning and quoting in a low to mid-volume Job Shop environment.
- Experience with the planning and manufacturing modules of ERP systems. JobBoss experience is a plus.
- Extensive experience with the machining of different types of materials, including metallics, plastics, composites, honeycombs, and ablatives.
- Must be able to work in control ventilated environments with mask and protection gear.
- Knowledge of basic prep and keeping a clean job site.
- Quality conscious and detail oriented.
- Extensive knowledge of reading/interpreting mechanical drawings, sketches, and technical documentation/information packages.
- Competent 2D drawing interpretation skills along with a thorough understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Competent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to perform effectively in a fast paced, deadline-oriented environment.
- Ability to comprehend and apply principles of basic math, algebra, and basic statistical data.
- Proven knowledge and skills of safety/environmental measures associated with machining operations.
- Ability/willingness to develop/coach/train department personnel.
- Proficient working knowledge of machined parts inspection methods and tools/equipment in the verification of part dimensions.
- Effective verbal and written communication in English and customer service skills to communicate professionally with machine shop personnel, management, and customers at all levels.
- Competent machine shop EHS knowledge.
- Strong team player and ability to work independently with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in process improvement, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation.
- Experience working on shop floor with technicians/operators in a hands-on environment.
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Ability to learn to perform cross-functional operations.
Preferred Requirements:
- CNC programming experience is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
- Frequently moves about the office and machine shop to gather information and perform work.
- Frequently works at a computer performing research, documentation review, planning, and other activities for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to understand/interpret specifications, drawings, and instructions.
- Occasionally lifts and moves materials that weigh up to 45 pounds.
Work environment:
- Most of the work hours are in an air-conditioned open office with an assigned cubicle and comfortable seating; will require limited walk-throughs in the production area which is not air-conditioned, is noisy, and requires safety protocols.
- The incumbent will spend a portion of the day on their feet and must follow strict safety rules. They wear safety glasses to protect their eyes from airborne debris. Loud noise from machinery requires use of hearing protectors. They wear hard toe shoes or boots to protect their feet from potentially dropped objects.
