Job Description:
- Experience in Electro-Optic Cable Terminations and Jointing
- Involves sub-surface communications cable management and electronics assembly.
- Fiber Optic Splicing
- May require tasks such as potting mechanical and electronic components, Hi-Pot testing, hydrostatic-pressure testing, and soldering of electrical/electronic assemblies.
- Precision Adjustments
- Perform coarse and fine adjustments using hand tools, precision measuring devices, and specialized equipment (e.g., vacuum equipment, digital indicators, optical microscopes, height gages, Vernier gages, micrometers, and electronic testing fixtures).
- Assembly Support
- Provide skilled support for potting, electro-mechanical, and fiberoptic assemblies.
- Handling Optical Components
- Inspect, clean, and prepare delicate optical components and assemblies.
- Electrical/Electronic Component Knowledge
- Understand and work with a broad range of electrical, electronic, and mechanical parts such as fiber optics, solder, wire, resistors, diodes, capacitors, relays, transformers, coils, switches, PC boards, epoxies, and crimping.
- Schematics and Wiring Diagrams
- Read and interpret schematics and wiring diagrams to ensure proper assembly and functionality.
- Precision Assembly Tools
- Work with adhesives, fusion splicers, high precision fiber cleavers, polishing machines, and test tools.
- Team Mentorship
- Guide, coach, and mentor less experienced team members and serve as a positive role model for the team.
- Production Scheduling
- Assist with production scheduling and control to meet deadlines.
- On-the-Job Training
- Participate in developing and implementing training programs and introduce new processes for production areas.
- Process Improvement
- Contribute to program or team projects aimed at improving quality, cost, and scheduling by developing new methods, solutions, and procedures.
- 5S+1 Program
- Assist in implementing and sustaining the 5S+1 program to maintain a clean, orderly work environment and ensure safety regulations are followed.
- GEMBA Meetings
- Assist in leading daily departmental GEMBA meetings, update board contents, and follow up with actions to measure effectiveness and performance.
- ESD and Compliance
- Comply with ESD compliance, chemical regulations, and conduct tooling and equipment audits.
- Tooling and Equipment Design
- Assist in determining the need for tooling, testing tooling, and equipment, and make recommendations for the design and planning of necessary tools.
Qualifications:
- Expertise in sub-surface communication optical cable, potting, fiber optics, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
Education
- Two-year post-secondary degree/Associates degree with a minimum of 2 years of prior related experience; OR some college in a technical discipline, technical school training, OR high school diploma with at least 6 years of experience in an electronics manufacturing environment.
- Ability to develop practical solutions to technical challenges, interpret schematic diagrams, and engineering drawings.
- Willingness to travel up to 25% of the calendar year.
- Ability to read and interpret fiber optic prints and schematics.
This job requires a highly skilled individual with experience in fiber optics, electronics, and assembly techniques. The candidate should be capable of leading teams, mentoring junior technicians, and contributing to process improvements within a manufacturing environment.
