Key Responsibilities
Strategic Partnership and Advisory
- Act as a key partner and advisor to the Chief Retail Officer and Regional Presidents in all aspects of their operations and organizational matters.
- Drive overall strategy development for the Retail division of Markel Specialty.
- Serve as a significant point of contact with other departments such as Claims, Finance, Actuarial, and Markel Specialty Operations.
Project and Initiative Management
- Track commitments, initiatives, and special projects to ensure alignment with strategic goals.
- Oversee and drive multiple strategic projects and initiatives.
- Support project management activities across the Retail division.
- Serve as point of contact and liaison with the operations team for implementations and enhancements of systems.
Strategic Planning and Execution
- Work closely with the Chief Retail Officer and key members of the team to build a long-term strategic plan for the Retail operation.
- Spearhead the annual business planning process within Retail.
- Partner with Regional Presidents and other retail leaders on major projects to advance strategic priorities.
- Manage the implementation of regional/territory processes, policies, and practices.
- Support leaders in project management and execution of company-wide projects.
Cross-Departmental Liaison
- Collaborate with other Markel Specialty groups including Operations, IT, Finance, HR, and Wholesale distribution counterpart, to ensure process, tools, and technology infrastructure to support retail operations are market-leading.
- Drive the installation of consistent processes, practices, and rituals throughout the Markel Retail organization.
- Serve as a program liaison to help ensure workflow, headcount, PRS, etc., are accounted for and included.
- Partner to coordinate technical education – product, systems, etc.
- Liaison with external groups such as Operations, IT, Finance, etc.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Work closely with territory leaders to drive critical and strategic initiatives with efficiency.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to facilitate successful implementation of strategies and projects.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment that promotes teamwork and shared success.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a strategic leadership role within the retail or specialty insurance industry.
- Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale projects and initiatives.
- Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and influence without direct authority.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
