Title: Manager, Title Risk & Audit
Location: Charlotte, NC or Winston Salem, NC
This is an advanced level position which works under limited supervision of the Director Counterparty Risk & Audit and is responsible for performing title risk management protocols of the agents. The position for performing certain agent approval procedures and agent’s onsite audits consistent with Essent Title’s risk assessment and the respective State DOI, if applicable. The position shall review agents’ standards of practice to ensure protocols are within Essent Title risk tolerances and the agents comply with federal and state laws regarding the agent’s closing, title and escrow management. This position plays a key role in risk identification, assessment, mitigation and management. The position also supports the Director in analyzing and reviewing various risk indicators, agent score carding, organizing processes, and communicating timely and accurately within Essent Title Insurance Company. Excel and PowerPoint skills are critical to the job function.
As a dynamic and resourceful professional, we will rely on you to perform the following duties:
- Conduct and review agency onsite reviews to ensure agents comply will all federal, state, and local laws and regulations and are operating within our risk appetite. Perform escrow bank statements and perform title policy file reviews to oversee the proper issuance of title insurance products and develop risk mitigation plans.
- Review requests for new agent approvals requests and recommend scope of the offering and any restrictions. Communicate results internally and externally as appropriate leveraging internal CRM tool. Ensure supporting documentation is properly processed, supports decision made, and is retained.
- Help monitor and assess the impact of industry changes including technology, fraud mitigation and statutory regulations on the company and our agents. Assist in development of and improvement of title processes, and documenting of policies and procedures.
- Work with agents and BD team to address changes to Agent’s policies including appointments, over-limit thresholds and other variances. Track variance utilization.
- Perform ongoing monitoring routines which may include financial statement collection and reviewing publicly available information on the agent. Maintain governance for all Risk Management related items (new programs/variance approvals, pricing decisions, Agency Committee scheduling, etc. Support the compilation of reports, presentations, and other visual materials to highlight the effects of risks and the proposed solutions.
- Help identify potential areas of risk. Propose methodologies, strategies, and solutions to overcome those risks to reduce their effects.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- Bachelor’s degree in management, business, finance, operations, or a related discipline is required; advanced degree preferred.
- Five (5) years or more in mortgage or mortgage industry, preferably in position evaluating mortgage companies.
- Title insurance underwriting experience and real estate transactional background a plus.
- Knowledgeable in real estate closings, title insurance, escrow and underwriting audits, and ALTA Best Practices.
- Strong analytical, qualitative, and quantitative skills.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft applications - Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Strong organization and communication skills.
- Ability to work under limited supervision while still meeting deadlines.
- Superior analytical abilities, team working capabilities, and result oriented nature.
- Must be detail oriented.
