- JOB SUMMARY
- Leads, guides and directs the delivery of rehabilitative services in the facility in accordance with local, state and federal regulations, standards and established facility policies and procedures to provide appropriate care and services to residents.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- COORDINATES, OVERSEES, DIRECTS LTC THERAPY STAFF
- Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates and directs the overall operation of the rehabilitation department as well as its programs and activities, in accordance with current state and federal laws and regulations; and respective practice act(s) in the state.
- COORDINATES, OVERSEES AND DIRECTS LTC THERAPY SERVICES AND PROGRAMS
- Plans, develops, organizes, implements, evaluates, and directs the execution of rehabilitation services ensuring such services are provided in accordance with physician’s orders and American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in accordance with guidelines issued by the governing body and its respective affiliate state chapter.
- DEVELOPS LTC THERAPY STAFF AND DEVELOPS LEADERSHIP SKILLS
- By providing routine timely feedback, encouraging individual growth and pursuit of continuing education, encouraging mentoring amongst staff, encouraging involvement with students, conducting staff meetings, coaching and counseling staff, developing, coordinating and enforcing systems for department productivity, performing annual performance appraisals.
- COORDINATES AND WORKS TOWARD FINANCIAL OBJECTIVES
- By preparing annual departmental budgets, overseeing all therapy expenditures, providing budgetary information to all staff, coordinating efforts with fund raising departments, identifying and analyzing trends, initiating corrective action, maximizing efficiency and productivity, overseeing and coordinating therapy schedules with respect to facility reimbursement.
Identifies, in conjunction with the Director of Nursing and Administrator, the facility’s key performance rehabilitation indicators. Establishes an ongoing system to monitor these key indicators such as the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement process in the rehabilitation department.
- MANAGES BENEFIT USE/PAYROLL
- By overseeing use of benefit time, analyzing and inputting individual payroll information.
- SERVES AS ADVOCATE/REPRESENTATIVE OF LTC THERAPY STAFF AND SERVES AS A STRONG INTERDISIPLINARY TEAM MEMBER
- Reads and stays informed regarding regulatory, scope of work and supervision requirements as defined by the therapy practice act(s), business practices and other changes influencing rehabilitation outcomes. By attending a variety of internal and community meetings, maintaining contact with interdisciplinary leaders, encouraging open lines of communication between departments and with administrative leaders, attending interdisciplinary GSH functions/events.
- DELIVERS QUALITY CARE
- Develops and implements processes and systems to effectively lead, guide and direct the delivery of rehabilitation services including but not limited to processes for the timely screening, evaluation, treatment, discharge and all associated documentation requirements for residents in the facility.
- Ensures that all therapists are appropriately documenting, billing and coding for residents receiving therapy.
- Ensures resident information needed for the resident assessment instrument is provided such as functional abilities and goals, functional status, range of motion, balance during transitions and walking, therapy minutes and distinct calendar days, etc. during the defined observation period(s).
- Participates as a qualified clinician for the interdisciplinary determination of the resident’s usual performance in a functional assessment as required by facility policy (RAI User’s Manual) for Part A, Medicare Advantage residents upon admission, interim and at time of discharge,
- Provides and reviews all therapy documentation for accuracy, timeliness and thoroughness in conjunction with facility payment audits according to the criteria established in the Medicare Benefit Policy Manual, Chapter 8.
- DEVELOPS AND ENHANCES PROFESSIONAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- By attending educational workshops, arranging, overseeing and/or providing learning experiences for professional development and self and /or staff, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, benchmarking state-of the-art practices.
- CONTRIBUTES TO TEAM EFFORT
- By embracing change to achieve common goals, demonstrating and promoting a positive work environment, contributing to the development of others by facilitating discussion, serving as representative of LTC therapy department, serving as liaison between therapy departments and internal/external contacts, serving as resource person to staff, residents, families, community members, participating in departmental and GSH events/activities which are supportive of our mission. Identifies and collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary team, physicians, consultants, and community agencies to identify opportunities for enhanced services to the residents and/or resolve issues.
- PROVIDES FOR SAFE AND CLEAN WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- By adhering to infection control policies and procedures, ensuring availability of PPE, following policies and procedures for equipment maintenance, attending or receiving input regarding environmental rounds, attending/conducting routine life safety drills, reviewing life safety procedures with staff.
- Develops and implements processes and systems to ensure therapy equipment is stored, used and sanitized, disinfected and/or cleaned properly and safely in the facility.
- MAINTAINS CONFIDENTIALITY AND PROTECTS RESIDENTS INFORMATION
- By securing all information in confidential space, following facility confidentiality policy.
- OVERSEES AND PARTICIPATES IN STAFF, STUDENT AND VOLUNTEER EDUCATION
- By assigning students, aides and volunteers to staff, monitoring clinical experiences, providing written feedback to students and clinical institutions, developing ongoing clinical relationships with accredited institutions, providing and arranging educational experiences.
- PROVIDES VISION FOR THERAPY DEPARTMENT AND FOLLOWS MISSION OF GS LTC
- By establishing goals and objectives for the LTC therapy departments and by providing work environment based in compassion, excellence and partnership.
COMPLIES WITH GOVERNMENTAL LEGAL AND PROFESSIONAL GUIDELINES/REQUIREMENT
By understanding and adhering to current standards of practice for each discipline and guides for professional conduct including the code of ethics and practice guidelines established by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Leads, guides and directs the rehab department’s readiness related to health inspection surveys, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) surveys, and any other regulatory entity or requirement. Stays informed regarding regulatory, scope of work and supervision requirements as defined by the therapy practice act(s), business practices and other changes influencing rehabilitation outcomes.

- QUALIFICATIONS

- Education
- Bachelor's Degree in a clinical discipline required
- Master's Degree preferred
- Work Experience
- 3-5 years of experience required, preferably in a Long-Term Care setting
- 1-2 years of prior supervisory experience preferred
- Licenses / Certifications
- Clinical license in appropriate discipline required
- Basic Life Support / CPR, as a healthcare provider, per the American Heart Association required
