The Manager of Respiratory Care serves as the lead administrative and clinical manager over pulmonary care, pulmonary function, and all pulmonary equipment and supplies. This manager provides specialized clinical respiratory care, consulting, and administrative support across all departments for the Hospital. In this role, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating respiratory therapy practice in all areas of the hospital. Ensures that all orientation, training, education, and competencies are complete and works with the medical director on policies and protocols. The Manager of Respiratory Care works closely with the administrative and management staff, physicians, nurses, patients and their families. The position requires a working knowledge of the overall operation of the Hospital, efficient Patient Throughput, Crisis Intervention, Conflict Resolution, Excellent Interpersonal Communication Skills. A high level of personal integrity and accountability are required.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide specialized clinical respiratory care consulting and administrative support across all departments for the Hospital.
- Guide staff on completion of reports and distributes reports to clinical leadership as appropriate.
- Complete and distribute appropriate reports to the clinical director and manager of the area involved in any type of occurrence and senior management when necessary.
- Assess, plan, develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate respiratory therapy practice in all areas of the hospital.
- Ensure that all orientation, training, education, and competencies are complete and work with the medical director on policies and protocols.
- Act as a liaison with senior management and other levels of management across departments to assure the smooth and efficient operation of the Hospital.
- Provide feedback and guidance to unit management in relation to staff performance, fitness for duty, etc.
- Serve as a respiratory resource to all hospital support areas and provides problem solving support as needed.
- Perform rounds to unit when assistance is required and makes regular rounds to accomplish purposeful rounding.
- Work closely with the administrative and management staff, physicians, nurses, patients and their families.
- Direct and assist with Disaster Response in accordance with Hospital policies.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s Degree
- 3 years of respiratory therapy experience in a hospital environment
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the State of Illinois
- CPR Certification (BLS)National Certification
- ACLS Certification National Certification
- Working knowledge of the overall operation of the Hospital and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks
- Ability to work with diverse staff and management groups in a complex organization
- Excellent verbal and written skill
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills with the ability to work independently and as a self-motivator
- Working knowledge of word processing, database and spreadsheet programs
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree
- Leadership experience strongly preferred

Compensation & Benefits Overview
UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.
The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
