Overview:
To plan, organize and direct the activities of the Quality Control Department and coordinate the total plant quality assurance effort so as to ensure comliance to customer, division, and plant quality standards.
Responsibilities:- Supervises and coordinates the activities of the Sr.Quality Control Technicians and Glass Attendants; designs and
performs special process experiments; conducts experimental analysis work; and evaluates and interprets
collected process and quality data.These positions supervise and administers activities of the Quality Control Department in accumulating and
analyzing quality data of in-process and out-going production. The incumbent directs the activities of subordinates
through day to day personal contact, and receives periodic written reports and correspondence as required from
each, and reviews objectives and plans as needed.
- The incumbent establishes and maintains current and long range quality objectives for the plant, designs
Quality Control Systems and develops improvements for existing systems through the application of experience
and acquired knowledge. In addition, the incumbent develops quality standards and technology of the Company
with respect to costs, product quality, and customer service. From the results of this work and in conjunction with
others at the plant, makes full economic evaluation of the quality control system developed. This position is in
frequent contact with the Plant Manager, Manager Glass Products,Manager, Float Process Manager, Value Added
Products Manager, and Shift Managers concerning quality procedures, product quality levels, and customer
response to product quality.The incumbent complies and analyzes field complaints, inspects field installations when necessary and makes
periodic visitations to customer facilities.
- The incumbent conducts in-plant testing programs and evaluates results to assist in problem-solving and product
improvement in cooperation with the Production Departments. The Quality Control Department works with the
Production Department to evaluate borderline quality characteristics and render assistance based upon thorough
knowledge of product specifications and customer requirements
- Based upon knowledge and judgment of the circumstances and the conditions existing at the time, the
incumbent has the responsibility and full decision-making power to determine whether product meets stated
requirements, and to provide judgment in those areas where requirements may not exist; however, the final
decision to save or throw away, to screen or not to screen, or to ship or not to ship is strictly the responsibility of
the Plant Manager.
- The incumbent is responsible for the morale of all Quality Control personnel and for creating an atmosphere of
confidence, mutual trust, and respect among all Works #4 employees, so that no need for a third party will exist.
Reviews all disciplinary action, disqualification, absenteeism, and employee situations. Prepares
performance appraisals of QC personnel and annually counsels them. Makes recommendations to the Plant
Manager for promotion, demotion, transfer, or other assignments of his personnel.
Basic qualifications include a Bachelor's Degree plus five years industrial experience in a quality control or related
functions, an aptitude in mathematics and statistics, skill in oral and written communication and the ability to
effectively supervise and develop subordinates.
