About the Job
The manager of pharmacy operations assists the director in overseeing all medication procurement, storage, and preparation of medications for the organization; while providing optimal operational services that meet all legal, accreditation and regulatory requirements. The manager of operations directly supervises the daily activities of staff pharmacists and technicians in a manner that supports the safe and effective use of medications to patients and staff of Memorial Medical Center.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of an ACPE-accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS or Pharm. D. degree.
- Masters of Pharmacy Degree or MBA preferred
Licensure/Certification/Registry:
- Licensed as a Pharmacist in the state of Illinois required.
Experience:
- Minimum of five years hospital-based pharmacy experience, with three in a supervisory role

- Supervises the daily activities of pharmacists and technicians, monitoring the dispensing and distributive activities and other attendant functions.
- Under the direction of the Director of Pharmacy, develops quality assurance measurements that objectively assess the adequacy of pharmacy services. Performs measurements on a regular basis and reports results to the department’s Director.
- Completes and delivers annual appraisals for pharmacists and technicians using performance and behavior-based criteria. Annual evaluations will include a thorough review of the document along with discussions concerning areas that necessitate improvement and measurable objectives for improving performance.
- Submits proposed annual goals and objectives, assists in the coordination of the accomplishment of the goals and objectives, and reports quarterly progress toward their accomplishment.
- Assist in the development, maintenance and interpretation of policies and procedures involving inpatient and outpatient services for the department.
- Works with the medical staff, nurse managers, and allied health professionals in providing pharmacy services that meets the needs of their patients.
- Assists the Director to ensure that the pharmacy meets or exceeds all Joint Commission, CMS or IDPH standards.
- Reviews and maintains that all pharmacy, policy and procedures remain current
- Assumes responsibility and authority of Pharmacy Director during her temporary or planned absence.
- Is familiar with, understands, and complies with all policies and procedures affecting the scope of responsibility as compiled in the Department of Pharmacy Policies and Procedures Manual.
- Works cooperatively with all hospital personnel to promote and maintain good interpersonal and interdepartmental communication.
- Is responsible for the management of the Pyxis Med-Station System and provides Pyxis training to both Pharmacy and Nursing staffs, when needed.
- Interviews candidates for departmental positions, evaluates qualifications, and makes recommendations with regards to suitability of the prospective candidate.
- Sustains professional competence and promotes development through participation in workshops, in-services and/or professional organizations.
- Presents to the Pharmacy, Therapeutics & Nutrition committee when needed
- Provides operational on-call coverage to support departmental operational programs.
