About the Job
The RN Manager of Patient Care Services (Surgery), manages staff providing patient care services and oversees the daily operations of the department. Contributes to the development and revision of policies, procedures, protocols, and standards of care. Serves as the nursing leader for designated shifts and acts as a liaison with other departments.

Key Responsibilities:
Daily Management of Department Staff:
- Observe care delivery to ensure the appropriateness and quality of nursing care.
- Ensure the availability of equipment, supplies, and other resources required for patient care.
- Coordinate staff schedules, anticipate short- and long-term staffing needs, and adjust staffing levels accordingly. Approve payroll.
- Review patient medical records for completeness and appropriate electronic documentation.
- Assist with service recovery, resolve customer concerns, conduct investigations, and provide timely reports to appropriate personnel.
- Collaborate with the Educator to assess staff educational needs, provide orientation, training, and skill validation.
- Act as a clinical resource and role model for staff.
- Support staff in developing interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
Department Operations:
- Participate in interviewing and selecting new staff.
- Prepare and conduct performance appraisals, provide coaching, and discipline staff as necessary.
- Coordinate quality improvement and assurance activities.
- Provide input into capital and operating budgets; assist with implementing cost-efficient programs.
- Conduct product analysis and pursue cost-saving initiatives.
- Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating departmental goals, policies, procedures, and standards of care.
- Participate in nursing, hospital, and community committees and activities related to nursing practice.
- Conduct department meetings as needed.
Other Responsibilities:
- Complete other job-related duties and special projects as assigned.
Organizational Responsibilities:
- Attend and participate in department meetings; be accountable for shared information.
- Complete mandatory education, annual competencies, and department-specific training within established timeframes.
- Maintain license/certification/registration in good standing throughout the fiscal year.
- Direct patient care providers must maintain current BCLS (CPR) and other certifications as required.
- Consistently use appropriate precautions, protective equipment, and ergonomic techniques.
- Adhere to regulatory agency requirements, survey processes, and compliance standards.
- Comply with organizational and departmental policies.
- Be available to work overtime, additional shifts, or different schedules as required.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in Indiana preferred.
- Minimum of three years of job-related experience, including at least one year of leadership experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Knowledge of nursing care practices, equipment, procedures, and techniques relevant to the department.
- Familiarity with department policies, procedures, and practices.
- Strong management skills to provide effective direction and resource utilization; ability to promote teamwork.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building and maintaining effective relationships.
- Ability to disseminate information clearly and concisely.
- Strong planning and organizational skills for project coordination.
- Strong customer service orientation.
Working Conditions:
- Patient care environment requiring physical exertion, adaptability to frequent changes, certain undesirable patient care activities, and possible biohazard exposure.
- Flexible schedule due to the department's 24/7 operation.
- Potential occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
