Minimum Education:
· Bachelors degree required. Masters degree preferred
· Higher education may be substituted for experience
Minimum Work Experience:
· 4-6 Years of experience within the healthcare industry preferred
· Higher education may be substituted for experience
Required Licenses/Certifications:
· HFMA Certified Revenue Cycle Representative (CRCR) or higher, AAHAM Certified Revenue Cycle Specialist
(CRCS) or higher, or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) preferred, but not required.
Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
· Experience in revenue cycle and third party reimbursement
· Analytical and critical thinking skills
· Excellent communication skills
· Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
· Strong attention to detail
· Ability to multitask, can work in a fast-paced clinical environment, can engage patients, peers, and supervisors in a dedicated, comforting, respectful and effective way and has the ability to adapt to change.
Essential Functions:
· Supervise the Billing Department employees and the departmental billing functions that support the physician practices
· Manage all of the Billing Representatives, Billing Team Lead and Billing Coordinators including conducting performance reviews and providing feedback to staff and administration using performance management tools and reporting
· Coach, mentor, and influence direct reports, as well as foster teamwork within the department and the Physician Practices.
· Monitor the billing and collections functions and ensure that daily, monthly and annual metrics are met.
· Generate billing and collections reports as necessary. Provide monthly operating review reports to administration.
· Effectively manage the billing department and adhere to performance compliant activities within the department
· Manage and create the employee work schedules and prepare the yearly appraisals
· Interview and hire new employees
· Gather and verify current patient demographic information including but not limited to insurance information and treatment authorization
· Contact insurance companies and patients
· Process daily billings
· Complete and submit daily/monthly statistics and assist the Physicians with administrative duties
· Review trends and denials and generate statistics and recommendations for improvement
· Training all billing staff on new state or federal billing processes or procedures
· Other office and administrative responsibilities as assigned by supervisor and administration as deemed necessary
