Manager of Reprocessing & SterilizationUnder the direction of the Director of Surgical Services, the Manager of Sterile Processing assumes overall responsibility for the management of the Sterile Processing Department. This individual is accountable for the department’s day to day operation, budget, staff supervision and development, quality assurance, regulatory compliance, policy and procedure development and administration. In addition the Sterile Processing manager oversees all regulatory compliance and policy and procedures for HCT/P products at the hospital and is the chair person for Surgical Value Analysis Committee. Employees providing direct patient care must demonstrate competencies specific to the population served.
Bachelor degree in a Health related field Minimum of 5 years’ experience in perioperative field and knowledge of surgical procedures. Experience working collaboratively in team environments with demonstrated leadership and organizational skills required. Previous leadership experience. • Must be able to operate and perform computer programs associated with record keeping in the department • Ability to read, interpret and analyze data to formulate budgetary expenses throughout the year • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, staff, physicians, hospital personnel, visitors and administrative staff • Demonstrate team concept with interactions with the surgical staff to promote an effective environment to promote patient safety Work which produces levels of mental/visual fatigue which are typical of jobs that perform a wide variety of duties with frequent and significant uncontrollable deadlines. Work may include the operation of and full attention to a personal computer or CRT up to 40 percent of the time. Involves considerable standing or walking, regular lifting of light-weight objects (i.e., 20 pounds or less) and assisting with heavier tasks such as assisting in lifting and moving patients. Minor straining or fatiguing positions must be assumed, and some fatiguing physical motions are required. • Manages the operational, educational and personnel activities in the Sterile Processing Department. • Develops and maintains orientation manual for staff training in use of sterilizers, packaging procedures and distribution of medical surgical supplies and instruments processed by the department. • Maintains adequate staffing developing work schedule that assure continuous service. • Prepares the annual budget for Sterile Processing and monitors budgetary expenses throughout the year. • Interviews, hires, develop and evaluate technical support staff. • Plans and schedules in-service educational programs for Sterile Processing staff. • Coordinates the adequate stock levels of instrumentation and sterile surgical supplies. • Assess departmental processes and works with process improvement to achieve productivity and effective service. • Coordinates quality assurance measure for tray accuracy through establishing processes to identify missing instruments, document and identify repairs, record necessary changes, identify trends, and recommends process changes. • Develops and assures compliance to policies and procedures, and adherence to processes developed to improve patient care. • In consultation with departments served, develops short and long term goals. • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers and department staff to meet customer needs. • Assures compliance with all regulatory agencies in relationship to safety, maintenance, quality assurance, and infection control standards. • Manages the physical environment of the department. • Demonstrates commitment to providing outstanding customer service to all customers in a manner reflective of Bronson’s mission to provide excellent healthcare. • Develops and maintains the hospitals policy and procedures on HCT/P in adherence with regulatory agencies . • Works with infection control, attending meetings reviewing surgical infection reports. • Provides excellent service to hospital house wide needs maintaining scopes and instrumentation. Working with equipment management to facilitate needs. • Works with Material Management team to review par levels and adjust according to surgical needs • Chairs the Surgical Value Analysis Committee to evaluate new product requests from surgeons.
