The primary role of this position is to manage the operation of the credit union's Mortgage Lending department, including assisting members with their mortgage lending needs, analyzing loan requests and make credit decisions based on mortgage lending policy. As part of our management team, you will be providing leadership to the mortgage team in both operations and development through guidance, coaching and training opportunities.
This position requires the employee to register as a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System & Registry and obtain a unique identifier number prior to performing any function that would meet the definition of MLO activities.

Salary: $83,998-$94,497
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Oversee the operation of the Mortgage Lending program and ensure compliance with SFCU and government policies, procedures, and regulations.
Responsible for the direct supervision of the Mortgage Lending department personnel, scheduling of coverage and maintaining time keeping system within the department, performance evaluations, and employee motivation.
Develop a staff of well-trained and effective mortgage lenders.
Assist in hiring; direct and motivate a highly qualified staff sufficient to meet the daily operational needs of the department.
Complete employee performance reviews within the prescribed time frame.
Advise AVP of Lending of any problems or concerns related to the credit union's mortgage lending program.
Review and evaluate information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet credit union and governmental standards. Approve or rejects loan application, or request additional information. Establish terms and conditions of an approved loan and review with member.
Sell the Credit Union's mortgage lending program to companies and individuals within the real estate community.
Assemble and organize documents in loan file, including acceptance or denial.
Ensure that each real estate loan is processed accurately.
Work directly with vendors and attorneys who provide services related to mortgage processing.
Maintain accurate records of insurance and taxes on real estate loans.
File necessary legal documents with appropriate agency.
Responsible for compiling all necessary periodic reports.
Responsible for annual reporting for the secondary market, government monitored and general reports.
Manage second mortgage portfolio and work with Marketing to develop marketing plans for these products.
Provide guidance and assistance to branches as needed.
Keep informed of current trends in mortgage lending and market factors affecting mortgage lending.
Responsible for approving real estate loans within appropriate limits.
Cross-sell other credit union services to qualified members whenever possible.
Work directly with NCUA auditors as appropriate.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skills:
Experience Five years to eight years of similar or related experience.
Education (1) A bachelor's degree, or (2) achievement of formal certifications recognized in the industry as equivalent to a bachelor's degree (e.g., information technology certifications in lieu of a degree).
Interpersonal Skills Work involves extensive personal contact with others and is of a personal or sensitive nature. Motivating, influencing, and/or training others is key at this level. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.
Other Skills Knowledge of the secondary market and experience with first and second mortgage residential real estate lending. Prior knowledge of computer system required. Above average aptitude for figures and ability to pay close attention to detail. Above average communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work well under pressure and willingness to work flexible hours if necessary. A professional appearance and demeanor.
