Purpose and Scope:
Plans and leads a team responsible for manufacturing equipment and facility maintenance and repair including establishment of plant equipment specifications, manufacturing systems and techniques, tooling, fixtures, assembly methods, procedures and production efficiencies, and process controls. Contributes to the planning, development, implementation of manufacturing methods, processes and operations for new and existing products. Duties include:
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Interacts with Production Management to help determine production capacities, define workspace requirements, workflow and layout of equipment for optimal efficiency.
+ Provides engineering support for manufacturing changes to existing products.
+ Manages manufacturing process documentation, verification test plans, protocols and reports.
+ Identifies and leads process-related cost reduction opportunities within the supply base.
+ Drives projects through cross-functional collaboration, timeline and schedule management.
+ Develops strategies and project plans that include but are not limited to cost reductions, reliability improvements and product manufacturability resulting from acquisitions or contract manufacturing initiatives.
+ Works with production managers and supervisors to help estimate production touch times, staff requirements and related costs necessary for strategic and budgetary decision.
+ Collaborates with R&D, Marketing, Quality, Procurement, Accounting and Manufacturing personnel to develop engineering strategies that support new product development and design transfer.
+ Leads in-depth product and process failure investigations to determine root causes of failures and to implement effective and preventive actions.
+ Establishes and approves equipment and process qualification/ validation protocols.
+ Assures compliance with all company policies, standard operating procedures and recognized domestic/international standards.
+ Plans annual manufacturing equipment and facility maintenance budget to ensure resources are adequate to execute approved projects and goals.
+ Prepares and issues timely status updates on active projects for review by local and Senior Management.
+ Responsible for recruitment of staff, annual performance assessments and fulfillment of training requirements.
+ Provides leadership, coaching and development plans for all direct reports to maintain an engaged and productive workforce; partnering with Human Resources on employee matters.
Education Experience and Required Skills:
Bachelor’s degree (or an equivalent foreign degree) in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field and 5 years of experience as an Automation Engineer in the medical device sector. Must also have 5 years of experience (which can have been gained concurrently with the primary experience requirement above) working with the following:
+ Lean manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies and tools;
+ Designing and programming PLCs specifically Siemens S7-300, S7-400 and S7-1500;
+ Designing and programming HMIs including specifically Siemens Multipanels, Comfort Panels, Panel PCs;
+ Designing and Programming SCADA software (Simatic PCS7, Simatic Batch, Simatic WinCC and Aveva Wonderware (AppServer and InTouch));
+ Configuration of OPC interfaces: OPC DA, OPC UA (Kepserver and Matrikon) and industrial communication networks (Profibus, Profinet, Modbus and EtherCAT);
+ SQL databases: queries, SQL commands, database troubleshooting; and
+ Troubleshooting of motor drives (VFDs and motion control), electrical and electronic cabinets and Fanuc, ABB and Epson robots.
