The Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) is a not-for-profit membership organization that promotes the health of women and newborns. Our mission is to empower and support nurses caring for women, newborns, and their families through research, education, and advocacy.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Manager Instructional Design and Program Management is responsible for translating subject matter expertise (SME) into instructional and educational content, by refining textual descriptions, planning and creating appropriate illustrations, and developing innovative ways to impart complex concepts to the target audiences, including nurses and other healthcare providers. This position collaborates with SMEs, and other core team members during all phases of the project – from needs assessment, to proposal, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
This position works directly with the Director of Critical Care Clinical Programs to manage the revisions and operations for the Obstetric Patient Safety Program, oversee all customer inquiries, and manage the relationship with the CNE fulfillment site (Affinity). As part of the process for creating educational offerings for OPS, this position will also serve as the project manager, which includes establishing timelines, coordinating team members, collaborating and interacting with OPS instructors, interacting with outside vendors, and performing budget reconciliation.
Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 5 years previous working experience in instructional design
- Minimum of 3 years previous experience in managing complex programs. Experience managing a full cycle of product development highly desirable.
- Experience working with instructors and train-the-trainer programs preferred
- In-depth knowledge of learning theories and instructional design models
- Lesson and curriculum planning skills
- Exceptional eye for design aesthetic and knowledge of design trends
- Strong proficiency with industry standard design software (Adobe Creative Suite and Articulate 360)
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication and organizational skills.
- Must have strong analytical, collaborative, organizational and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrates strong analytical skills; proven ability to decipher and dissect complex problems and develop creative solutions.
- Budget development, monitoring, and forecasting skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, Instructional technology, educational technology or equivalent work experience.
- Demonstrated attention to detail, quality, and accuracy.
- Familiar with building healthcare provider educational programs, preferred.
- Ability to work with independence as well as in small collaborative team environments.
Instructional Design – 50%
- Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) and nurse leaders - to design, develop and revise a diverse mix of e-learning programs in enduring formats using a variety of delivery methods including synchronous, asynchronous and hybrid formats. The work with SMEs and nurse leaders will include the development of innovative ways to impart complex concepts to the target audiences of nurses and other healthcare providers.
- Collaborate with other project managers to facilitate adherence to production timelines and project budgets from inception through program launch.
- Guide and support SME and nurse leader in the application of adult learning theories and e-learning best practices into the creation of practical e-learning educational content emphasizing Universal Design for Learning to meet accessibility requirements.
- Collaborate with SME and nurse leader to integrate technology that promotes active learning.
- Provide guidance to SME and nurse leaders in the effective use of varied instructional material and learning activities to engage diverse learning needs, including audio, video, graphic, and multimedia.
- Create supporting material/media as required (audio, video, graphic and multimedia including simulations, role plays, games, etc.) to enhance the educational experience of the learner.
- Package educational programs for loading into AWHONN’s learning management system.
- Maintain project documentation and course folders.
Program Management – 50%
- Develop strategies with a focus on identifying issues, implementing, and facilitating problem solving measures to ensure successful delivery of OPS and Critical Care Obstetric Education (CCOE) program.
- Serves as liaison with vendors and instructors for OPS projects and CCOE within project manager portfolio, including, internal and external vendors, etc.
- Supports the marketing efforts of projects in OPS and CCOE portfolio working in collaboration with marketing.
- Develops, implements and evaluates customer service policies and processes for all programs managed.
- Answers day-to-day customer support inquiries and maintains FAQ sheet to document best practices.
- Serve as project manager for other education projects (as assigned). Includes establishment of
timeline for project components; coordination of team members; identification of barriers; and quality improvement reviews and content editing.
- Collaborate with nurse leaders to facilitate budget forecasting and tracking for selected programs specifically focusing on expense management.
- Maintenance of document delivery to external vendors, including prepping files for narrators and copy editors and reviewing vendor’s work for quality and accuracy.

SUPERVISION
Works independently under the guidance of the Associate Director, E-learning and Instructional Design. Receives guidance on clarification and interpretation of policies of the organization. Work is occasionally reviewed upon completion.
