CU Science Discovery is a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) education outreach organization in the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Colorado Boulder. CU Science Discovery collaborates with CU Boulder faculty, research groups, institutes, and students to develop engaging STEM experiences that spark interest and increase understanding among K-12 students, teachers, and the general public. This position provides oversight for Science Discovery's out-of-school-time (OST) STEM education programs, including summer camps, after-school classes, and community outreach programs, and directly runs Science Discovery's high school programs, including the STEM Research Experience and STEM summer classes. Reporting to the Director of Science Discovery, the Manager of High School STEM Programs ensures that Science Discovery's OST programs are delivered effectively and efficiently and are aligned with the organization's mission and vision.
Position responsibilities include: collaborating with CU Boulder faculty, staff, graduate students, and other campus researchers to provide rich and engaging on-campus STEM experiences for teens, including an annual, multi-week summer research experience and a variety of week-long summer classes in subject areas such as engineering, neuroscience, and biotechnology; providing training and support to scientists and engineers in science communication and community engagement, to develop and implement impactful Broader Impacts activities; supporting program evaluation of Science Discovery's K-12 STEM programs, to support ongoing improvement of Science Discovery's offerings for students, teachers, and the community; and overseeing Science Discovery's summer program, including supervising the Informal STEM Programs Director and providing budget oversight.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
This position runs Science Discovery's high school Summer Research Experience and an array of summer STEM classes for teens and provides oversight for the unit's out-of-school-time programs, including summer camps and afterschool and day-off programs. This position helps lead critical strategizing and holds decision-making authority over these programs, including staffing and budgetary decisions, and works in collaboration with the Science Discovery Director and relevant program managers, to ensure that Science Discovery's out-of-school time programs are run efficiently and effectively and in support of the organization's mission.
Specific job responsibilities include:
+ Being responsible for the summer STEM Research Experience for high school students, including recruiting, training, and supporting graduate student research mentors; recruiting and selecting high school student researchers and assigning them to research projects and graduate student mentors; supporting research participants throughout their summer experience; and overseeing the program's budget and evaluation.
+ Supervising Science Discovery's summer STEM classes for high school students, including developing the high school summer class schedule, recruiting, and training class instructors, promoting the program to area high school students, providing budgetary oversight of the program, and supervising Science Discovery staff working in support of the high school STEM classes (including the Informal STEM Programs Manager and STEM Coordinator).
+ Supporting evaluation of Science Discovery's STEM programs across the unit, to ensure ongoing program improvement. Collaborating with program managers to prioritize evaluation needs, identify appropriate instruments, and conduct formative and summative program evaluations.
+ Supporting Science Discovery's science communication training programs for CU scientists, including faculty, graduate students, and post-docs. Connecting scientists to public engagement opportunities (including Science Discovery camps and classes and community outreach events) in order to increase public awareness and understanding of CU science, and being responsible for Science Discovery's Meet a Scientist events.
+ Supporting the design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of Science Discovery's community outreach programming as needed.
What You Should Know
+ This is a regular full-time position, primarily working 9 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday.
+ Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required in support of STEM outreach events.
+ Extended time off for vacation may be limited during the summer programming season (late May through early August).
+ This hybrid position requires 3 days a week on campus except for the months of May-August, which require full-time onsite responsibilities.
What We Can Offer
+ The starting salary range for this position is $74,000-$80,000 annually.

What We Require
+ Master's degree in a relevant STEM or education field.
+ 3+ years of experience working in formal or informal STEM education.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to synthesize and communicate information clearly and concisely.
+ Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
+ Experience conducting STEM research and/or training/mentoring students in the scientific and/or engineering design process.
+ Ability to initiate, track, and complete projects independently.
+ Knowledge of the best processes in science communication and ability to train scientists in effectively communicating about their research.
+ Excellent presentation skills. Ability to effectively communicate about STEM research and education with diverse public audiences.
+ Familiarity and experience with program evaluation, including quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods.
