Manager, Federal Public Policy

Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 5+ years of federal legislative office, government affairs or other relevant experience
- Knowledge of suicide prevention, mental health/health policy issues preferred
A leading mental health nonprofit is looking for a strong Manager for State Policy. The candidate will need more than 2 years of experience in a legislative capacity. Someone who knows how to dissect and track legislation in different states is key. Someone who can disseminate that info to appropriate stakeholders and present to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Director, Federal Policy on the federal legislative policy
- Assist in the development of federal legislative strategy in advancement priorities
- Develop and maintain meaningful relationships with federal policymakers
- Convene various stakeholders (internal and external) as appropriate in advancement of legislative initiatives
- Engage Members of Congress, Staff, other members of the Legislative and Executive branch as needed under the direction of the Director of Federal Policy and other departmental leadership
- Identify, analyze, and track federal legislative initiatives that impact the organization
- Provide written summaries and other materials on federal policy information
- Represent the organization in meetings and discussions with federal legislative stakeholders
- Provides technical assistance on federal legislative matters to policymakers
- Increases support for organization’s priorities, including appropriations
- Prepares briefs, writes detailed and complex management reports, and compiles and disseminates a variety of information
- Consults with the organization’s federal legislative vendors on public policy issues
- Other duties as assigned
