Responsibilities:
The Facilities Manager of Operations and Maintenance ensures University facilities are optimal for utilization
Responsibilities include administering and coordinating projects for the design, construction, modification and maintenance of University buildings, investigating and evaluating the benefits and effectiveness of materials, systems, and equipment, and developing and monitoring facility and operation programs that adhere to federal, state, and institutional health, safety, and construction regulations and standards
The Facilities Manager collaborates with department heads to direct and manage the activities of University facilities and operations staff and external architects, consultants, and contractors including hiring, training, scheduling, providing counseling, mentoring, performance evaluations and professional development
Schedule 7 AM-3:30 PM; POSS WKNDS Responsibilities JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all underground utility systems
This includes hot water, chilled water, steam, condensate, domestic water, natural gas sanitary sewer and storm sewer systems
This covers over 40 plus miles of underground utilities, 3000 feet of utility tunnels, 1,500 utility manholes, vaults, hand hole, catch basin/drainage structures, 600 Utility Meters, 140 domestic water backflow preventers
Position reports to Manager, Utility Distribution Systems
Must be available for on-call responsibilities and respond to emergencies 24 x 7
Must have a clean NYS Drivers license
Works independently with minimal supervision
Must be able to make decisions under difficult conditions and critical, sometimes very short timelines
Expected to follow all Federal, State and University regulations, codes and guidelines in execution of responsibilities
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree required; Prefer Bachelor's degree in mechanical, technical, civil, or industrial engineering, construction or other relevant technical field specialty; Master's degree preferred
5 years of experience required managing operations and maintenance of large educational or medical facilities or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Required knowledge, skills and abilities: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Excellent attention to detail, organizational and leadership skills; Proficient in best practices for facilities management and engineering management; Ability to negotiate and mediate conflict within an academically, culturally, and ethnically diverse community
