The Manager, Corporate Casualty Claims is responsible for assisting in the direction of the Claims Department with the objectives of managing indemnity and expense impacts on the company's financial results. Establishes current and long-range casualty and litigated claim objectives, plans and policies necessary to insure adequate case reserve levels, optimal claim settlements, expense control and discharge of policyholder's liabilities in a timely, efficient and equitable manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensures the adequacy of individual case reserves, compliance to standards, proper settlement procedures and sound adjusting practices are adhered to at the branch and corporate levels.
- Implements measures to control indemnity costs and all associated allocated and unallocated loss adjustment expenses including adherence to company budget guidelines.
- Oversees and directs all claim activity on Casualty and Litigated claims in excess of branch authority.
- Develops policies and procedures and ensures compliance with the companywide Litigation Standards of Performance to provide for the cost effective and efficient defense of all policyholders.
- Establishes, monitors and controls a cost-effective legal bill auditing program to ensure cost effective control of allocated loss adjustment expense. Manages the relationship between approved defense counsel and the company and ensures that counsel adheres to published guidelines.
- Assists in the establishment of performance standards and claim handling procedures relative to Casualty and Litigated claims. Develops and implements training programs to ensure that all personnel handling Casualty and Litigated claims have a full understanding of the company performance standards and are adequately trained in all technical aspects of Casualty and Litigated claims.
- Conducts periodic quality audits of all Casualty claims personnel to ensure compliance with published standards and state regulations.
- Responsible for managing Claim Legal operations, including management of the following positions/units; Litigation Manager, Casualty Unit Supervisors, Claim Attorney, and others as may be assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Qualified candidates will have a 4-year degree or equivalent work-related experience. Graduate degree, Juris Doctorate or professional designations desirable.
- 10+ years Casualty and Litigation Claims management experience is required.
- High level of claims technical knowledge.
- Experience handling high exposure automobile, general liability, labor law, products and environmental liability claims is required.
- Proficient with state and federal laws affecting claims handling.
- Prior management experience is required.
- Knowledge of local industry developments and trends.
- Microsoft Office knowledge as well as the ability to work with internal company systems (WINS, ImageRight etc.).
- Exceptional organization skills.
- Clear Communicator – verbal and written; Ability and desire to present to large groups.
- Highly Organized; Ability to develop and execute annual plans.
Merchants Insurance Group Pay information:
Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale. The actual compensation will be determined based upon experience and other factors permitted by law. The pay range for this position is $118,000 - $157,000.
