POSTION OVERVIEW
Delta Utilities is seeking a Claims & Risk Manager to join our rapidly growing team. This role will oversee the review and processing of all claims against and from the company. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer, the Claims & Risk Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring claims are handled with precision, efficiency, and alignment with company standards while supporting operational excellence and risk mitigation efforts. This is a full-time, onsite position based in New Orleans, Louisiana.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the establishment and implementation of strategies, processes, and procedures for handling claims brought by third parties, including for property damage, auto damage and bodily injury, as well as for pursuing claims against third parties
- Serve as a liaison between the company, insurance brokers, carriers, defense attorneys
- Collaborate with in-house and outside legal counsel to ensure claims are investigated thoroughly, well documented, processed correctly, and paid or collected timely
- Ensure compliance with regulations, insurance policies, company policies, procedures, and standards of conduct
- Review files to ensure claims are created timely, in accordance with company procedures and established guidelines, and are updated as appropriate in consultation with legal counsel
- Monitor claim activities, identify trends or areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance claims handling efficiency and customer satisfaction
- Develop settlement strategy by evaluating factual information to settle claims in a cost-effective manner
- Create and provide regular reports and ad hoc information to legal counsel, executives, and management on status of claims and settlements as well as regular claims updates and information on request to operational leaders and executives
- Engage with gas operations management and field personnel to communicate identified risks and strategies for mitigation and advise on claim-related issues
- Perform administrative activities, such as managing attendance, budget, and staffing levels
- Performs other duties that may be assigned at the Company’s discretion
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in risk management, business administration, finance, insurance, or a related field
- At least 7 years of experience in a corporate risk management department and/or large insurance carrier
- Strong foundation in claims adjustment and litigation management
- Strong knowledge of insurance policies, coverage, and claims settlement procedures
- Knowledge of Risk Management Information systems, database analytics, claims trends, and reserve setting and analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 (Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong organizational skills, and a collaborative approach to problem solving
- Solid foundation of personal organization, sound decision-making and analytical skills, and strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work autonomously to a significant degree, have a high level of attention to detail, be organized and efficient, prioritize and successfully manage multiple projects, and place a high value on providing exceptional and timely service to internal and external clients
