The Quality Control & Compliance Claim Manager reports to the Vice President – Claims and is responsible for leading and mentoring a team of talented claim professionals handling a wide variety of claims and shared services responsibilities. This position will develop, implement, and maintain processes for monitoring performance and measuring results against standards and goals for all claim operations. Additional responsibilities include vendor management, claim systems, analytics, regulatory compliance, and administrative support for Claim Legal Teams including legal spend management. The role includes facilitating and conducting training for the entire claims staff. In addition, assists in completing special projects, data analysis and carrying out strategic initiatives. Acts as an additional corporate claims technical resource and as a liaison with other departments and external business partners including reinsurers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Responsible for administering the corporate claims quality and regulatory compliance programs to measure claim file handling quality and to identify and reduce or eliminate claims leakage. Utilizing an organized audit approach, measure compliance to the established claims standards of performance by the claims department technical and managerial staff.
- Maximize the balance between loss and loss adjustment expense incurred through the design, implementation and ongoing management of a cost-effective vendor management program.
- Design, arrange and conduct training and continuing education opportunities for the claims technical staff at all levels to maintain the skill levels of our adjusting staff in ever changing and evolving environments.
- Assist with the completion of special department or company projects and with carrying out strategic initiatives and goals. Gather and analyze claims data to measure and evaluate claim department performance and effectiveness.
- Serve as a corporate level casualty claim technical resource to assist with file supervision of the claims field staff, offering guidance and direction, authority grants or other high-level input as required to bring about optimal claim resolutions, with a focus on control of all loss costs.
- Manage all staff reporting to this position.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Qualified candidates will have a 4-year degree or equivalent work-related experience. An MBA would be desirable.
- At least 5 years claims technical or leadership experience.
- CPCU or other insurance industry designations are desired.
- Prior supervisory or management experience preferred
- Experience handling all or combinations of automobile, general liability, labor law, property, and workers’ compensation claims.
- High level of claims technical knowledge.
- Proficient with state and federal laws affecting claims handling, including Medicare Secondary Payer rules and reporting requirements.
- Knowledge of industry developments and trends.
- Previous background in performance metrics and analytics helpful.
- Microsoft Office knowledge as well as the ability to work with internal company systems.
- Exceptional organization, verbal and written communication skills are highly desirable.
Merchants Insurance Group Pay information:
Merchants Insurance Group offers a competitive pay scale. The actual compensation will be determined based upon experience and other factors permitted by law. The initial pay range for this position is $90,000 - $126,000.
