The position: The Manager Advanced Quality is leading GD’s Advanced Quality Planning process between the company, the customer, and supplier to ensure a safe, robust, and flawless product launch or modification. The role participates as a member of cross-functional teams by representing the Quality Assurance discipline and works directly with engineering, purchasing, and suppliers to qualify new products and ensure their flawless introduction to the manufacturing sites.
Responsibilities:WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Support the part and process development process (PDP) by leading the APQP process and ensure availability of quality related deliverables on time (at gates).
- Support in various part and process development phases including risk analysis (DFMEA/ PFMEA). Develop and maintain inspection strategies based on the results of the risk analysis with corresponding robust and innovative concepts.
- Develop and roll-out Quality Standards (e.g., defect types, control plans, inspection plans, others).
- Responsible for monitoring Cost of poor Quality (COPQ) during the different phases of the PDP. Lead problem solving activities during the different development phases and beyond by aiming zero COPQ.
- Develop and ensure robust Safe launch (Containment) concepts. Support during ramp up and transfer knowledge into lessons learned (LeLe) and Best Business Practice (BBP).
- Own the PPAP process and Lead Advanced Product Quality Planning activities for to be sourced components and assemblies. Work with the Engineering (Design and Manufacturing Engineering) team to define process parameters and criteria to ensure supplier process capability is effective to meet product and process requirements.
- Support new product launches and product changes by collaborating closely with engineering, purchasing, and suppliers to ensure suppliers are capable of delivering to the required quality standards.
- Assessment of new suppliers.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
- Other duties as assigned.
Your skills and abilities (required qualifications)
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a science or technical related field
- Years of Experience: 5+ years of experience in advanced quality (APQP)
- Certificate in Automotive Core Tools (APQP, PPAP, FMEA, Control Plan, MSA, 8D)
- Skills: Good problem-identification and problem-solving abilities. Able to organize and prioritize completion of assigned tasks.
- Must be able to work independently on quality tasks and responsibilities while being an integral of the product development team.
- Six Sigma certification / ASQ certification preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Ability to travel on short notice; Travel: 30-50%
