Mammography Technologist - Radiology-Diagnostic, Per Diem - New London Hospital

• GENERAL SUMMARY
  • Provides diagnostic imaging services according to accepted standards and protocols and assures patient safety during procedures.
• FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • General Diagnostic Procedures:
    • Performs all diagnostic procedures following policies and procedures established by the department.
    • Adjusts patient care based on age-specific needs.
    • Uses all equipment properly and in a manner that minimizes hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation to patients.
    • Determines most suitable position and shields patient for optimum imaging and patient comfort.
    • Follows ALARA principle (staff and patient shielding).
    • Explains procedures and responds to questions appropriately.
    • Scans paperwork into the PAC’s System.
    • Maintains working knowledge of the PAC’s System.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of CD Burning.
    • Completes patient charges for each exam in a timely manner.
    • Transports patients to and from the department.
    • Maintains a clean and orderly environment.
  • Special Diagnostic Testing:
    • Demonstrates competency in performing all procedures and use of the equipment for CAT Scans and/or Mammography, as appropriate and assigned.
    • Keeps dose as low as possible to achieve diagnostic exam.
  • Administrative:
    • Uses computer to access reports.
    • Follows protocols for releasing of images.
    • Assists with administrative responsibilities of the department to include scheduling appointments, answering the phone, etc.
    • Performs all quality controls procedures daily as assigned and maintains appropriate logs.
    • Participates in annual surveys and inspections.
    • Able to teach/aid students.
• POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
    • 0-1 year
    • Hospital experience preferred
  • Experience
  • Education
    • Graduate of an accredited school of radiology technology
    • Registered/licensed with American Registry of Radiology Technologists (ARRT)
    • Or equivalent in education and experience
