Job Description
Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system at UChicago Medicine as a Mammography Technologist in the Radiology Breast Imaging Department.
Eligible for a Sign-On Bonus up to $15,000 based on relevant years of experience.
Under the direction of a Radiologist, produces breast radiographs to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of disease for both symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. This position requires intimate patient contact, excellent communication skills and the ability to work with initiative and accuracy. Responsibilities include but are not limited to imaging, patient education, data collection and maintaining regulatory compliance.
Essential Job Functions
- Reviews physician’s order to assure appropriateness of examination being requested
- Selects appropriate exposure factors based upon breast tissue density, patient’s age, numerical compression scale, and technical equipment characteristics
- Performs a variety of clinical breast procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for any given examination; evaluates images for diagnostic quality prior to submitting for interpretation
- Assist physician in set-up and performance of breast interventional procedures
- Recognizes report and document malfunctions of technical equipment
- Assists in the training of new staff and student technologists
- Maintains physical work environment to be in compliance with regulatory certifying agencies. Adheres to all infection control regulations
- Performs other duties as requested by Lead Technologist and Department Manager
Required Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalency required
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT)
- Certified by the American Registry of Radiological Technologists (ARRT) in Mammography or obtained within six months from date of hire
- Licensed by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA)
- Must demonstrate excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills
- Must demonstrate good decision-making and judgment skills
- Must be able to function in fast-paced environment
- Maintain required mammography continuing education as mandated by the Mammography Quality Standards Act
- CPR Certification
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with diagnostic/procedures 2 years
- Experience with automated whole breast (ABUS imaging)
