Job Description:VALLEY MEDICAL CENTERMammography TechnologistValley Breast CenterThis salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Valley Medical Center and will be narrowed during the interview process based on several factors, including (but not limited to) the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, and internal equity. TITLE: Staff Mammography Technologist JOB OVERVIEW: The incumbent performs a variety of technical procedures (high quality screening mammography, complete diagnostic work-up, wire localizations for surgical biopsy, galactograms, and stereo biopsy) that require skill, independent judgment and ingenuity. Is directly involved in facilitating patient throughput and directs a variety of cross trained staff in other service areas as needed. Performs and directs other duties necessary for the daily operation of the department. SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS: Position requires advanced positioning skills, a complete knowledge of breast anatomy and pathology, and the ability to interact with the patient in a caring and professional manner. The incumbent performs radiographic procedures at a high technical level and works closely with patients and radiologists. AREA OF ASSIGNMENT: Valley Breast Center RESPONSIBLE TO: Lead Tech and Manager, Valley Breast Center PREREQUISITES:
Must have fulfilled MQSA mammography requirements.
License may be obtained through attending an approved school, ARRT certification or alternative training. Professional credentials specific to work area: ARRT with mammography certification preferred and/or Washington State License.
Previous professional experience in breast health special procedures.
Two years mammography experience preferred.
Able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served on the assigned unit/department.
Demonstrates effective communication skills in a diverse population.
Ability to communicate in English.
Demonstrates the ability to work as a member of a team.
Flexibility, adaptability, and ability to remain organized and positive in a climate of constant change.
Familiarity and experience in outpatient imaging center environment.
Exceptional positive current references.
Produces high quality digital images, correctly positions patient, and selects the correct technical factors.
Performs breast related studies.
Performs daily verification and facilitates completion of any pending clinical tasks.
Functions as department resource for operation of technical equipment. Helps to facilitate equipment repair. Maintains equipment.
Assists in training and orientation of new personnel.
Assists management with development, dissemination and training for new procedures and processes. Provides input on employee performance. Assists in evaluation of candidates for employment.
In conjunction with radiologist, performs all departmental special procedures including (but not limited to) stereotactic core biopsy, galactography, and needle localizations.
Monitors room cleanliness and QC visual check lists.
Assists ancillary staff, as time allows.
Monitors supply usage and reports to supervisor as necessary
Assures completion of mandated equipment Quality Control activity.
Assures completion of mandated MQSA requirements including providing cross-coverage and coordination of all patient communication for follow-up care and QA statistics.
Attends department staff meetings as required.
Demonstrates good understanding of the overall departmental operations, following departmental policies and procedures.
