POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides mammographic imaging and patient care services to patients. Provides Bone Densitometry imaging. Positions patients and selects anatomic and technical parameters accurately. Utilizes ALARA principles during examinations. Implements radiation protection and safety standards.
- Uses AIDET for every patient; every time. (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, and Thank You).
- Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms providing proper positioning and shielding (when applicable) for patients and adjusts equipment following established protocols as outlines by the ACR and MQSA.
- Provides general breast and bone health education and information to patients.
- Efficiently utilizes supplies and monitors equipment performing quality control checks and evaluating results for adherence to ACR guidelines.
- Accurately documents and maintains appropriate, complete and timely records and communicates appropriate information to other members of the healthcare team as needed. Uses the computer system in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Provides clinical instruction and evaluation for students or other health care professionals as required.
- Performs all aspects of care in an environment that optimizes patient and environmental safety and in accordance with applicable laws, regulations and compliance efforts.
- Performs and is competent in Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) scans for bone mineral density content.
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
- Completion of accredited Radiologic Technologist program. Required
- Must provide copy of diploma/degree for highest level of education obtained. Required
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
- Certification by ARRT in Radiology. Required
- Mammography certification from ARRT within 24 months of hire. Required
- Current license from IEMA (Illinois Emergency Management Agency). Required
- CPR certification required within three (3) months of hire. Required
- Certificate by ARRT in Mammography. Preferred
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Experience as a Radiographer and Mammographer. Preferred
- Experience in Bone densitometry. Preferred
- Successful completion of annual clinical, age and job specific competencies and skill verification tools required.
- Knowledge of anatomy, pathology and physiology of the breast.
- Ability to establish effective working relationships and clearly and calmly communicate in English both verbally and in writing with patients, medical staff and the public.
