Summary This vacancy is for a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-07 located in the Department of Homeland Security, U. S. Coast Guard, Facilities and Engineering Department, Seattle, WA. Responsibilities You will serve as a Maintenance Worker and be responsible for the maintenance and minor construction and repair of the utility systems, equipment, structures, mechanical and electrical aspects of machinery, equipment and related systems; roads, grounds, piers, and Coast Guard owned housing Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Carpentry aspects consist of measuring cutting and construction or repairing wood or wood substitutes Mechanical aspects consist of all manners of routine and emergency repairs to air conditioning, heating and ventilation equipment and systems; refrigeration and galley equipment, rollup doors; water cooler repair; and washing machine and dryer repair. Electrical work removing and replacing, tightening, splicing and insulating defective wiring, controls, equipment and fixtures. Plumbing work repairs cleans, replacing, packing and sealing defective part of sprinkler, portable water and sanitary sewer systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Key Requirements: Must be a U.S. Citizen or National. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
