GENERAL DESCRIPTION
This position performs manual maintenance activities in assigned functional area. Functional areas may include roadways, City facilities and buildings, and/or stormwater systems and construction. Occasionally acts as lead crewmember on maintenance and minor construction and maintenance operations. Work is performed under the supervision of the Foreman or Crew Leader, with the general supervision of the Operations and Maintenance Manager and/or Facilities Manager.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
The following essential functions represent the primary duties of this position but should not be considered an all-inclusive list of responsibilities. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Performs manual labor and may be assigned to Streets, Facilities, and/or Stormwater maintenance.
- Assists in the operation and maintenance of City streets, Facilities and/or Stormwater.
- Occasionally performs as a lead and assists in directing division employees on projects.
- Completes forms, work orders, writes reports, delivers messages.
- Notifies appropriate supervision of any issues that need higher level decision making.
- Ensures safety of self and other crew members by utilizing proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Stocks, delivers, and inventories materials.
- Cleans and maintains tools, equipment, and materials.
- Troubleshoots issues with material, equipment, and tools and reports any ongoing issues to supervision.
- Complete pre- and post- trip inspections and notifies supervision of any issues and determine if the equipment needs to go to Fleet for repair.
- Transports construction materials and heavy equipment to designated work sites.
- Completes stormwater maintenance and repairs.
- Operates motor vehicles, vactor truck, and other vehicles such as dump trucks, flatbeds, etc.
- Transports material necessary for storm drain systems such as blacktop, gravel, sand, and other loose materials.
- Performs any other duties or tasks that may be assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance requirements of trucks and other light-duty automotive equipment.
- Knowledge of recreational fields and facilities.
- Knowledge of air conditioning maintenance, repair, materials, and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of plumbing and electrical work.
- Knowledge of carpentry practices, methods, tools, and materials.
- Ability to move and operate a variety of custodial equipment.
- Knowledge of the general tools and techniques applicable to the area of assignment.
- Knowledge of the safety precautions and hazards of construction and maintenance work.
- Knowledge of concrete and asphalt repair and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical data.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work safely for the protection of self and co-workers.
- Ability to use and operate heavy equipment and hand tools.
- Knowledge of safety practices and PPE.
- General knowledge of maintenance practices involved in street repair and MOT and FDOT guidelines and regulations.
- Knowledge of stormwater system maintenance.
- Ability to operate computers and tablet, including programs such as Microsoft Office.
- Minimal knowledge of GIS and mapping and ability to read maps.
- Ability to apply basic mathematical principles and calculations.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective and amiable relationships with leadership, supervisors, residents, customers, employees, other departments and agencies.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or valid equivalent.
- Two (2) years of experience in maintenance or manual labor work.
- Valid Florida Driver's license. A valid out of state License is acceptable, but selected candidates must obtain and provide a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of start date.
- Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial driver's license (CDL) with air brakes and tanker endorsements. An out of state class B CDL is acceptable, but selected candidates must obtain and provide a valid State of Florida CDL within thirty (30) days of start date.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered, provided that the education and experience are in a relevant and related field.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid State of Florida Class B Commercial Driver's license (CDL). A valid out of state License is acceptable, but selected candidates must obtain and provide a valid Florida driver's license within thirty (30) days of start date.
JOB LOCATION
All City owned properties and facility grounds, rights-of-way, easements, etc. Any off-site locations and facilities utilized as part of the City's participation or involvement in an event, activity or job assignment.
ADDITIONAL POSITION INFORMATION
- Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods, frequent bending, stooping, pushing/pulling up to 50 lbs., digging, reaching, crawling, kneeling, and climbing. Lifting of up to 50 lbs.
- Environmental Conditions: Exposure to extreme weather, strong odors, humidity, toxic agents, smoke/dust/pollen, humidity, animals, electrical currents, bright/dim lights, extreme noise, vibrations, machinery, traffic hazards, confined areas, and various heights.
- Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sound, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
