About the Job
The Operating Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of various facility systems and equipment. This role requires technical expertise in a primary craft area (Electrical, HVAC, Piping/Plumbing, Central Utility Plant Operations) and a strong working knowledge in other trades to ensure the successful completion of daily and weekly work assignments. The Operating Engineer will contribute to the upkeep of building systems to ensure optimal performance and safety standards are met.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform regular maintenance and repairs on mechanical, plumbing, structural, furniture, fire, life safety, and control systems to ensure all facility and building systems meet applicable standards.
- Take responsibility for facility services, preventative maintenance, purchasing, inventory control, contracted maintenance, and general technical proficiency.
- Maintain HVAC systems and associated equipment, ensuring they operate at peak performance through cleaning, inspection, calibration, and parts replacement.
- Record system readings and adjust equipment settings as needed to maintain proper operation.
- Comply with safety policies regarding the storage, use, and disposal of hazardous materials while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Conduct regular inventory checks of tools and instruments.
- Monitor and assess the quality and cost of maintenance work performed by outside contractors.
- Follow all safety procedures, maintaining good housekeeping and ensuring the safety of work areas. Proactively identify and suggest solutions for potential hazards.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- 0-2 years of experience in a related field.
- Experience with the maintenance and repair of commercial building systems.
- Ability to analyze and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, and take corrective actions as needed.
- EPA 608 Type II Certification.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
Preferred Qualifications:
- EPA 608 Universal Certification.
- Two years of trades schooling in electrical systems, refrigeration, or HVAC.

- Good communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of industry safety standards and best practices.
