Maintenance Technician - Safety Representative - DMI Companies

OVERVIEW

The Maintenance Technician/Safety Representative serves as a dual role with the primary focus of performing installation, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of production and facility equipment to support an efficient manufacturing operation. Secondly, the role will take the lead for ensuring the Portsmouth manufacturing facility remains OSHA compliant and follows all DMI Companies safety policies.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES

• Conduct preventative maintenance on plant production equipment and support systems and respond to emergency repairs as needed.
• Operate shop equipment including hand/power tools, measuring devices and material handling equipment as needed.
• Perform a variety of plumbing, electrical and carpentry installation and repairs.
• Lead all Safety Improvement Projects with support from Maintenance and Engineering.
• Fabrication of equipment to improve its overall safety for users.
• Continually build on and enhance the Safety culture through Toolbox Talks, Safety Committee training, and other impactful techniques.
• Conduct Safety inspections including, but not limited to fire extinguishers, fire risers, AED, and eye wash stations.
• Responsible for all near miss/injury investigations and corrective actions.
• Enforce all Safety regulations through incentives and corrective action.

EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

• High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical certification or an associate degree preferred.
• 3-5 years of industrial maintenance experience preferred.
• Knowledge of safety in the workplace practices and OSHA compliance a plus but not required.
• Prior experience with Six Sigma or other efficiency programs a plus.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills including public speaking.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Organizational skills and ability to prioritize work. Able to follow and give directions as required.
• Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic air systems
• Experience with industrial electrical and electronic repairs
• Understanding of plant production equipment and building support systems.
• Prior maintenance of lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, milling machines, power and manual hand tools
• Strong troubleshooting skills
• Ability to use and read electrical multimeter.

REPORTING STRUCTURE AND AUTHORITY

The Maintenance Technician/Safety Representative reports directly to the Portsmouth Maintenance Manager on a day-to-day behavior level (scheduling, time off approval, supplies needed, balancing the needs of the maintenance and safety tasks) but taking program direction from the Corporate Safety Manager.

With the Corporate Safety Manager approval, the incumbent has the authority to identify and modify equipment based on Safety recommendations.
