Maintenance Technician
The maintenance technician position is responsible for performing highly diversified duties to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and facility equipment according to safety, predictive and productive maintenance systems, and processes to support the achievement of the site’s business goals and objectives.
Essential Functions
- Perform highly diversified duties to install and maintain production machines and the plant facility’s equipment.
- Provide emergency/unscheduled repairs of production equipment during production and performs scheduled maintenance repairs of production equipment during machine service.
- Perform simple machinist duties and responsibilities.
- Perform basic electrical installations, removal, and troubleshooting.
- Perform mechanical skills including, but not limited to, mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, troubleshooting and repair of production machines.
- Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
- Diagnose problems, replace, or repair parts, test and make adjustments.
- Perform regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment, and plant facilities.
- Perform a variety of plumbing maintenance and carpentry functions.
- Use a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
- Detect faulty operations, defective material, and report those and any unusual situations to proper supervision.
- Comply with safety regulations and maintain clean and orderly work areas.
- Practice and promote all safety, health, and environmental procedures and practices.
- Be able to wear required PPE including but not limited to respirator, protective gloves, footwear, suits, hearing protection, head protection, eye, and face protection.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to loud noises, fumes or airborne particles, toxic chemicals (including high and low pH), flammable materials. Some duties may take place in high, precarious places and may involve moving mechanical parts. The employee will be exposed to extreme temperatures within the working environment, including outside weather conditions such as wet and/or humid conditions. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and fume hoods is required. Certain procedures will require the use of enhanced personal protective equipment such as a fit tested, full-face respirator.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Employee must be willing and able to wear safety equipment, such as but not limited to, ear plugs, safety glasses and/or goggles, steel-toe boots, and face shields. Employee will be required to be fit-tested for full-face respirators.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. The normal days and hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. At times the maintenance technician will work four 10-hour shifts which are Monday through Friday, 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Overtime, Call-In, and weekends as needed.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience.
- 2+ years of industrial or manufacturing experience as mechanic, electrical technician, or helper; hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and industrial or commercial experience.
Preferred Education and Experience
- An AA or AS degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance.
- 5+ years of industrial experience working in a mechanical or electrical maintenance position.
- Installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical instrumentation, PLC’s, and HVAC.
