JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Physical Plant Manager, the Machine Maintenance Technician performs routine and non-routine maintenance on printing presses and other printing or facility related machinery. Using skills in reading blueprints and problem solving, performs repairs and ensures timely maintenance of various types of machinery in a large print facility. Tracks trends and monitors gauges and other equipment to ensure maximum up-time on machines. Follows safe work practices and conducts self in a professional manner with vendors, contractors and other employees.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Service, repair, adjust, and test equipment that operate on the basis of mechanical and electronic principles
- Conduct regular tests and inspections of machines and processes to evaluate quality and performance.
- Inspect equipment, structures, circuits, or materials in order to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Identify issues by categorizing, estimating, recognizing differences or similarities, and detecting changes in circumstances or events.
- Analyze information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems.
- Observe, receive, and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources, including machine operators and service contract providers.
- Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
- Maintain a scheduled maintenance routine on each machine and teach the operators to how to take care of the equipment.
- Maintain manufacturer and maintenance contact list for each piece of machinery.
- Update internal tracking systems and maintain internal WIKI pages on machines.
- Proactively advise on future improvements both in procedures and new equipment purchases.
- Follow all internal safety procedures and OSHA standards, and maintain manufacturer initiated safety features of each machine.
- Perform all duties with company sustainability focus in mind.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED equivalent with 2 year technical certificate preferred
- 3-5 years of experience maintaining small and large scale production machinery
- Electrical & Mechanical experience
- Blueprint reading
- Experience working with plumbing, electrical and HVAC systems
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards
- PLC trouble-shooting experience preferred
- Forklift operation experience preferred
- Experience in a Production environment, preferably print
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITITES & COMPETENCIES:
- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and their applications.
- Ability to read electrical diagrams and schematics.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools to complete repairs.
- Ability to discern when equipment is not operating properly is likely to fail. Ability to recognize there is a problem.
- Ability to differentiate between errors caused by incorrect operation, versus machine based errors.
- Ability to communicate (read, speak, write in English)
- The ability to communicate information and ideas in speaking so others will understand, both in person, via email, and over the phone with operators or a manufacturer tech.
- Valid driver license with ability to obtain forklift certification.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 75 lbs.
- Proficiency with PC's to include knowledge of MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel) and ability to generate information and tracking status using proprietary software.
- Ability for weekend work shifts & overtime.
- Ability to contribute to building a strong and positive team spirit as well as align with GSP/GBP values.
