The purpose of this job is to provide the appropriate services to ensure that the Research and Technology Center (Research) and its equipment isreadily available to the staff and management of Research for development and technical services to U. S. Steel and its customers.
This position supports and provides facility electrical and mechanical maintenance services. The technician will work with and support the workof the existing facility maintenance staff. They will support the operation of the facility HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) system,along with the maintenance of most other facility equipment. They will support efforts to establish a facility preventive maintenance program,and will maintain a safe workplace including excellent facility housekeeping.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Performs all the preventive maintenance work necessary to keep the equipment and machinery running according to standards
- Maintain overall facility and associated facility equipment
- Troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical and mechanical equipment
- Understand and oversee the operation of the facility HVAC System, initiate maintenance and repair work and participate in fundamental repairs
- Direct and participate in facility plumbing repairs
- Support and direct the work of facility and equipment contractors
- Order and maintain replacement and spare parts for the facility and equipment
- Service the equipment as needs arise and following supervisor’s instructions
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Preferred Technical degree or trade courses combined with relevant work experience
- Qualified electrician preferred
- Electrical, instrumentation, electronics and mechanical background
- Must be able to read, interpret and understand drawings schematics
- Basic understanding of electronic controls and control systems
- Basic understanding of HVAC systems and equipment
- Knowledge and ability to utilize lean methods (Carnegie Way) to identify and implement continuous improvement projects
- Good planning and organization skills
- Good people skills and comfortable working with a diverse workforce
- Comfortable working in an atmosphere of change and the unexpected
- Good at working unsupervised, following directions, or set priorities.
BUSINESS CONTRIBUTION/IMPACT & LEADERSHIP:
- Gives maintenance to high precision equipment valued up to and more than $1MM
- Maintains equipment for a 200,000-sq. ft. facility
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to work in areas and with equipment that is sometimes dirty, noisy, and warm.
- Must be able to lift/move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs.) occasionally.
- This job is located at the Research and Technology Center (Research) in Munhall at the Waterfront some travel may be required to Troy Michigan Auto Center facility for occasional maintenance.
- Typical work week is M-F 8hrs a day between, 6:30am and 5:30pm. Overtime work as needed. Occasional weekends. Seldom if ever holiday work.
- Work in a safety sensitive environment at times.
