Position Summary
The DC Maintenance Technician II is a level 3 position which supports the operational objectives of the automated $1B company’s 1.8 million square foot Distribution Center (DC).
The Maintenance Technician II is responsible for ensuring the effective operation and upkeep of facilities and equipment within a distribution center. This role involves performing preventative maintenance, repairs, and installations on electrical, HVAC, and material handling systems. The Technician will work to maintain a safe, efficient, and productive environment by troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining critical systems while adhering to safety standards and operational procedures.
The Maintenance Technician II will play a critical role in ensuring the ongoing success and operational efficiency of the distribution center by maintaining and repairing essential systems and equipment. Functional Responsibilities
1. Direct Daily Operations
· Performs routine preventative maintenance on electrical, HVAC, and mechanical systems, ensuring proper functionality and compliance with safety regulations.
· Repairs and installs various facility systems, including electrical wiring (120V-440V, 3-phase), and HVAC units as needed.
· Installs and maintains DC storage racks, powered material handling equipment, and related systems.
· Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical, electrical, and electronic equipment to ensure minimal downtime and efficient operations.
· Completes and maintains detailed records of maintenance activities, including work orders through MaintainX, maintenance logs, and parts inventory.
2. Communication and Collaboration:
· Communicates effectively with supervisors, team members, and other departments to coordinate maintenance schedules and resolve operational issues.
· Assists in training and mentoring technician I team members as needed, fostering teamwork and skill development withing the maintenance department.
· Participates in team meetings to review performance metrics, safety updates, and improvement initiatives.
3. Continuous Improvement
· Identifies opportunities for process improvements in facility operations and maintenance procedures.
· Supports and implements continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the efficiency, safety and effectiveness of facility systems and equipment.
· Stays informed of new technologies and best practices in facility maintenance to contribute to the ongoing optimization of operations.
4. Continuing Education
· Engages in ongoing training to improve technical skills, safety practices, and knowledge of industry trends.
· Attends workshops, certifications, or courses as required to maintain and expand competency in relevant areas of maintenance and facility management.
Education/Qualifications
· REQUIRED
o High school diploma or equivalent.
o Strong communication skills including the ability for speak, read, and write in English.
o Strong attention to detail and accuracy in a rapidly growing company with a fast changing environment.
o Physical capability to perform sustained activity, including walking, bending, and lifting up to 60 pounds within an automated distribution center environment. Excellent hand-eye coordination and ability to work at high elevations.
o Ability to handle multiple tasks, be detail-oriented, and perform duties with minimal supervision and direction.
· PREFERRED
o Some college courses or vocational certifications; technical or vocational training.
o Technical certification or relevant trade school training in electrical (e.g., Journeyman Electrician, EPA Certification), mechanical, HVAC, or a related field.
o OSHA certifications (General Industry or Maintenance).
Experience
· REQUIRED
o Minimum of 3-4 years of hands-on maintenance experience in a similar role or environment.
o Minimum of 2 years of experience in Raymond Lift truck repair.
o Demonstrated knowledge with electrical systems (120V-440V, 3-phase).
o Ability to troubleshoot and perform repairs on powered material handling equipment (e.g., conveyors, forklifts).
o Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
o Familiarity in maintaining maintenance logs and work orders.
o Proven strong customer service, communications, and interpersonal skills with ability to collaboratively work as part of a team in a complex and fast paced workplace.
· PREFERRED
o Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
o Previous experience in a distribution center or manufacturing environment.
o Familiarity with safety protocols and regulations in industrial settings.
