GENERAL SUMMARY
This position is responsible for custodial services, basic maintenance, and groundskeeping for the Nisqually Tribe's government facilities and properties. Assignments may focus on specific areas, such as custodial tasks, building maintenance, or groundskeeping, or encompass all three depending on operational needs.
This position ensures the confidentiality, security, and accuracy of records, and promotes positive employee, customer, and community relations. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required and outstanding customer service to fellow employees, customers, vendors, etc. is expected. Regular attendance is required, and on occasion, later hours or weekend time may be required with project deadlines and a neat well-groomed professional appearance is always essential.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform. Building Maintenance and Repairs
· Perform routine maintenance, including changing light bulbs and addressing minor plumbing issues (e.g., unstopping toilets and sinks).
· Inspect for pests, structural damage, and equipment malfunctions, report findings to the appropriate personnel.
· Paint the interior and exterior of facilities and other structures as needed.
· Assist with basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and other repair projects.
Cleaning and Sanitization
· Vacuum carpets; sweep, mop, dust, wax, buff, and strip hard floors.
· Clean and sanitize restrooms, kitchens, and common areas; restock supplies as necessary.
· Clean and polish furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
· Empty and sanitize garbage cans and ashtrays; manage recycling and waste disposal.
· Wash windows, glass doors, and other surfaces.
Event and Office Support
· Assist with setup, teardown, and preparation for events, meetings, and activities.
· Deliver, move, and assemble office furniture, equipment, and supplies.
Landscaping and Exterior Maintenance
· Mow lawns, water plants, and perform routine weeding and pruning.
· Maintain landscaping features and remove debris from exterior spaces.
· Clean parking lots and walkways; collect and dispose of exterior trash.
Equipment Maintenance
· Perform basic repairs and routine servicing of maintenance tools and equipment.
· Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent within the first year of employment.
- Successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and criminal background check.
- A valid Washington State Driver's license and maintain a driving record that meets the minimum requirements established by Nisqually Indian Tribes vehicle insurance provider within the first year of employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience performing custodial or maintenance duties.
- Knowledge of the Nisqually Indian Tribe's history, customs, traditions, and ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
- Experience working with Federally Recognized Tribes.
SUPERVISION
This position does not supervise.
COMPETENCIES
Possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the primary responsibilities of the position.
· Knowledge of basic repair techniques for maintenance equipment.
· Knowledge of cleaning methods, equipment, and supplies.
· Knowledge of building maintenance practices.
· Ability to operate lawn mowers and a variety of other grounds keeping equipment, hand and power tools.
· Ability to exercise necessary precaution when using cleaners and solvents and to follow directions for use, as specified by manufacturer.
· Ability to work safely and use and operate power tools within manufacturer's safety guidelines for use.
· Ability to work independently in the absence of supervision.
· Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS
The work environment and exposures described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the primary responsibilities of this job. Work will be conducted indoor and outdoor and may be exposed to fluctuations in temperature while in and around Nisqually Indian Tribe. You may be exposed to all types of weather to include but not limited to summer heat, winter cold, humidity, rain, snow, wind, and any other weather conditions experienced at the property. May be exposed to normal conditions related to the position i.e., noise from vehicles, machines, tools, customers, employees, dust, pollen, odors, wildlife etc.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands; handle; feel; or grip objects, stretch and/or reach with hands and arms; stoop; crouch or work in cramped or awkward positions; repetitive motions; operate hand tools (may include operating heavy machinery), office machinery and motor vehicles. This person may regularly lift and/or move up to 55+ pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust to focus. Specific work assignments may change without notice.
