Summary:
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for installing, dismantling, assembling, troubleshooting, diagnosing, repairing and maintaining machinery and equipment used in the process of manufacturing and converting corrugated board. The Maintenance Technician is responsible for ensuring all equipment runs properly and meets operational and specification requirements. Ensures optimal production, quality and safety functions are met in alignment with our internal customer’s expectations.
Education/Experience:
Education/Experience:
- Associate degree in mechanical technology or related field preferred.
- At least 2 years of related experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Maintenance Technician:
Task include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform diagnostic testing if applicable and troubleshoot repair of equipment and component failures. Start equipment and observe mechanical operation to detect mechanical failure. Disassemble and inspect equipment and components to determine and repair cause of failure. Reassemble equipment after the completion of repair or maintenance work.
- Perform parts, machine and equipment repair and installation including bearings, gears, power transmission, springs, belt drives, chain drives, conveyors, electric motors, machine controls, DC motors, solenoids, timers/counters, conductors, motor drive systems, fluid systems, hydraulic components/systems, pneumatic components, press brakes, robotics, circuit boards, switches, circuits, PLC’s, etc. Perform work in accordance with all known manufacturers’ specifications and guidelines.
- Install or relocate new and existing equipment.
- Contact equipment manufacturer or vendor for technical support assistance.
- Record production, repair, and machine maintenance information. Complete work orders, purchase orders or maintenance daily summary reports.
- Modify, engineer or fabricate tools and equipment. Using soldering, MIG and stick welding techniques, processes and equipment to repair joints or fabrication of metals.
- Collect and discard worn machine parts and other refuse to maintain machinery and work areas.
- Maintain parts, hardware, and tool inventory. Notify purchasing when inventory requires replenishment. Help to maintain inventory with cycle counts. Occasionally may be required to make a parts run. Communicate with supply vendors as required.
- Calibrates equipment, electronically and mechanically.
- Assist with spill containment and clean up.
- Perform required maintenance per established preventative maintenance program.
- Back up other Maintenance shifts/positions as needed.
- Oversee and perform daily housekeeping duties in maintenance shop. Maintain and cleanup work area after repair or install has been completed.
- Follow and comply with all health/safety rules and regulations.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of corrugated, converting machines and ancillary equipment used in packaging and display manufacturing operations including their designs, uses, how to repair and maintain is preferred.
- Knowledge of mechanical power variables of mechanical power including speed, power, torque, horsepower, and mechanical forces. The ability to determine which power components are most suitable for specific operations, evaluate machine efficiency, and determine when machine components should be replaced. Familiarity with power variables and their effects can help to prevent machine downtime and component failure.
