Job Description: Maintenance Mechanic III
Position Overview:
Operating at a mastery level, the Maintenance Mechanic III is a key player in the repair, maintenance, and optimization of mechanical, electrical, robotic, and automated systems within the manufacturing plant. This advanced-level role requires independence, problem-solving expertise, and leadership in developing and executing maintenance strategies to ensure the highest levels of equipment uptime, reliability, and productivity.
The Maintenance Mechanic III will provide critical technical support to Manufacturing Technicians, Value Stream Leaders, and Engineers in areas including production, safety, testing, and process improvement. This role also serves as a mentor and leader, elevating the technical capabilities of the team through coaching, training, and the implementation of best practices.

Key Responsibilities:
• Advanced Maintenance & Troubleshooting:
Perform highly complex maintenance and repairs on equipment and systems (mechanical, electrical, PLC, robotic, pneumatics) with minimal supervision. Troubleshoot and resolve infrequent or complex issues across multiple systems, utilizing advanced technical skills and tools.
• Technical Leadership & Mentoring:
Serve as a technical leader within the maintenance team. Mentor and coach less experienced mechanics, providing guidance on troubleshooting, repair procedures, and preventative maintenance techniques. Lead training efforts to develop the skills and capabilities of junior and mid-level mechanics.
• Process Improvement & Equipment Optimization:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and implement process improvements. Recommend equipment upgrades and modifications to increase system performance, enhance yield, and reduce downtime. Participate in Lean Manufacturing initiatives and Kaizen events.
• Preventative Maintenance & Reliability:
Plan and perform preventative maintenance on plant equipment to minimize unscheduled downtime and increase system reliability. Perform root cause analysis on equipment failures and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
• Data Management & Reporting:
Gather, analyze, and maintain technical data related to equipment performance and maintenance activities. Prepare detailed reports documenting modifications, repairs, and maintenance procedures. Use data to develop recommendations for improvements in machine performance and operational efficiency.
• Safety & Compliance:
Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in strict accordance with safety protocols, company policies, and OSHA regulations. Promote a safety-first culture and participate in safety audits and initiatives.
• Continuous Learning & Development:
Continuously develop technical and leadership skills to stay at the forefront of industry trends and technologies. Take on progressively more complex projects and assignments, while also sharing knowledge with the team to enhance overall performance.
• Collaboration & Communication:
Work closely with the Production Manager, Supervisors, Quality Technicians, and Engineers to ensure the seamless integration of maintenance activities into daily operations. Communicate effectively with all team members and stakeholders to ensure alignment on goals, projects, and timelines.

Required Qualifications:
• Experience:
o 4+ years of hands-on experience in maintenance, specifically with mechanical, electrical, PLC controls, robotics, pneumatics, and automated systems.
• Education:
o High School diploma or GED required.
o Associates degree in a technical field or relevant certifications (mechanical, electrical, PLC, etc.) preferred.
• Certifications/Additional Skills (Preferred):
o Certification in maintenance-related trades or advanced technical training is a plus.
o Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies is highly desirable.
o Previous experience leading or mentoring teams in a maintenance environment is highly preferred.
o Experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting, preferably in bedding manufacturing or related industries.
o Certifications in Controls, Electrician, Industrial Mechanics, Millwright, and Machinist are highly preferred.
• Technical Skills:
o Advanced mechanical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
o Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and automated equipment issues.
o Proficient in using diagnostic tools, precision measuring instruments, and a variety of maintenance equipment.
• Leadership & Communication Skills:
o Proven ability to mentor and train others, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
o Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical issues and solutions to team members, engineers, and leadership.

Job Factors/Work Environment:
• Must stand and walk for a minimum of 8 hours per day (or longer in overtime situations) and lift heavy materials up to 120 pounds multiple times per hour. Team lifting is required for heavy loads.
• Work in a safety-focused, fast-paced manufacturing plant with exposure to noise, hot materials, and chemicals. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
• Must be flexible with shift availability, including potential overtime, weekends, and night shifts as needed.
