Maintenance Technician
Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school with 1,650 students in preschool through 12th grade. The Facilities Department has openings for the position of Maintenance Technician, to start immediately.
This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and works closely with other Facilities employees. This is a 12-month, full-time non-exempt position with benefits including health insurance, paid leave, school-provided lunch, and availability of 403(b) retirement plan.
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing any combination of corrective repairs or preventive measures and activities to maintain the exterior and interior spaces of the School. These spaces may include office, classroom, performing arts and athletic buildings as well as outdoor spaces and venues. Other duties may include supporting special events by assisting with table and chair setups, erecting tents, and clean-up of the area following the event.
Flexibility is essential. This position will/may be required to work when the School is closed which may include holidays, weekends and extended hours in summer. Availability to attend events at any/all of the three Porter-Gaud/O'Quinn campuses, during both regular and off work hours is required.
Specific Duties include:
- Performs routine maintenance and repair activities such as: assembling furniture, painting, carpentry, minor plumbing repairs, concrete work, minor electrical repairs and troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on HVAC systems.
- Inspects drives, motors and belts, and checks fluid levels and other maintenance activities in accordance with manufacturer's instructions.
- Coordinate with other School personnel in the receipt of deliveries and classroom/office space renovations and furniture movement.
- Compliance with all applicable safety regulations.
- Compliance with all department rules, as specified in the Employee Handbook.
- Other duties as assigned by Plant Manager and/or Director of Facilities.
Required skills:
- Must be able to follow directions.
- Must be able to work independently and in a team environment.
- Knowledge of and experience with a variety of electric and hand tools, diagnostic equipment and measuring devices.
- Experience in basic electrical and carpentry skills.
- Experience with door hardware, closers and electrical/mechanical access systems.
- Experience with motorized equipment, such as lifts, tractors and skidsteers (preferred).
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- 4+ years experience in construction, maintenance or related field.
- Valid SC Driver's license and acceptable MVR.
- High School Diploma preferred, but not required.
Physical requirements:
- Frequently lifting 10-20 pounds, occasionally lifting 50 pounds. - Continuously demands vision, hearing, fine motor skills, and speaking. Frequently sitting, standing, walking and carrying. Occasionally bending, lifting, crouching and climbing. - Work is performed mostly indoors with occasional outdoor work with exposure to heat, humidity, and cold.
Salary: Commensurate with experience.
