Job Purpose: The Maintenance Technician will perform a variety of activities to maintain plant equipment and facilities in optimum operating conditions. These activities include scheduled preventive maintenance and emergency/break down repairs, performing mechanical, pneumatic, electric, plumbing, mechanical lines and other repairs and installation as needed. This position reports to the Maintenance Manager.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
- Being proactive on things around all facilities that may be in need of repair before they malfunction.
- Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, forklifts, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
- Traveling to multiple facilities within 17 miles.
- Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
- Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
- Controls downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques; monitoring compliance.
- Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
- Maintains equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies; placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt.
- Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
- Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
- Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
- Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
- Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Using a CMMS software to answer repair needs and other requests.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of industrial maintenance experience.
- 2+ Years of commercial HVAC experience.
- Experience with electrical, plumbing, mechanical and pneumatics.
- Ability to read blueprints (schematics a plus).
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting a plus.
- Experience in packaging, food, and molding preferred.
- Preventative Maintenance.
- Possess a positive attitude with a strong work ethic.
- Owning tools for repairs of all trades.
- Work van/ truck for tools and transferring materials and tools.
- Valid driver’s license.
Education Level:
- High School Diploma or GED (General Education Degree).
Language Skills Sets:
- Must be able to communicate, read, write, and speak English.
- Ability to read, analyzes, and writes. Effectively follow orders and respond to questions from management.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to determine “root cause” of problem and determine corrective action.
Computer Skills:
- To perform this job successfully, an individual must have knowledge of email and excel. They must also know how to use a CMMS program for communication.
Physical Demands:
- Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
- Must be able to activate phone systems utilizing keyboards and buttons.
- Must be articulate and comfortable speaking in front of others.
- Regularly works in an indoor/office environment and required to sit and/or use repetitive hand motion.
- Frequently required to talk, hear, stand and walk.
- Must be able to work in excess of continuous 8 hours when required.
- Must be able to work under stressful situations, have good cognitive skills, maintain work accuracy, and the ability to concentrate on more than one task at a time.
- Must have the ability to read and discern visual images on a variety of media with 20/20 corrected vision.
- Must be able to speak and communicate clearly over telephones.
- Must be in sound physical health as determined by a certified licensed physician with no evidence of the use of controlled substances.
Work Environment:
- While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment will range from quiet to moderately loud.
